The average lifespan of this crystal is 1000 years when removed from the tree. Otherwise it is everlasting.

During the ancient time, Karians used these crystal to create their ritual vessels as they believed this is the correct way to communicate with nature.
Later they found out the cost - killing the tree and after 1000 years the crystal withers. This made all mining of this crystal highly forbidden and considered high offense against Karian people. They mastered the way to work with this crystal, allowing it to preserve items made from it for longer than 1000 years. However this recipe is long lost.
