Native to the
Plane of Earth, bears share a
common ancestor with
Dwarves. Like most megafauna, they have a larger than life, semi-mythic quality in the Palimpsest zeitgeist. Although particularly skilled magic users can summon Chthonic Bears with a
Summon Monster IV spell, most ordinary citizens have never seen a full-sized Bear.
Variations
On the South Star (Plane of Earth), even larger Chthonic Dire Bears can be found. The
Ironside Estate displays a taxidermied version in the stairwell: a trophy from one of
Vizier Balthazar Ironside's hunting trips to the Plane of Earth. A select few unbelievably skilled magic users could summon Chthonic Dire Bears with a
Summon Monster VI spell.
