Lund was particularly specialised in the mathematics of how the positioning of celestial objects affects the flow of magic and of areas that are aligned with particular gods or kinds of spell. How that is affected by the movement of the stars and the moon.
One of the oldest books that is still here, particularly, cites an older thesis that isn’t here, that is specifically an entire thesis doing a lot of new work into understanding the affect of the mixing influences of all the stars and constellations that makes it essentially impossible to planeshift or teleport as high as Salsabil. A lot of work in understanding it that isn’t kept in the library any more although it’s cited in some of his later stuff.
Not obviously related to the main area of expertise: he apparently wrote a paper on the relationship between Divs and Genies. Presumably looking at it from an astronomical viewpoint. Genies are connected to the stars and Divs aren’t. It is cited in the context of, in one of his other works when he is talking about how, being in a location that is positioned correctly to be attuned to a particular star can help with magic based around that stars’ area of influence. Genies, because they are themselves always attuned to their home star, can bypass that. Rituals that would require you have direct line of sight to the West star can be bypassed if one of the people involved in the ritual is a genie. They count as a localised and weaker but nearer conduit of magic to the star itself. Every genie has a permanent connection, spiritually, to their home plane.
Unsaid here but implied by the “see this paper on Genies and Divs” is that that connection is permanent until it isn’t and that’s when divs are created.
Lund is 79 years old. Retired and technically still a professor and gives an occasional lecture.

James Lund is a tenured professor of Astronomy at Elderton University. Although North Town University is better known for its studies in Astronomy due to its ties to the Honourable Company, Elderton's Astronomy department is perhaps more appealing to James for its more liberal approach to the subject, deviating in certain ways from the Company's line and interests. As a tenured professor, Lund has even more freedom to study his own interests. Although he is now mostly retired, he does still give the occasional lecture.
