Sailor's Shanty
When our telescopes are pointed to the West,
There’s a sextant we have espied.
We will place our hopes in the scholar who knows best,
And expect that He’ll be our guide.
We’re inclined to thus equip
A divine relation-ship.
We observe the Sailor,
No Journey Is Too Far!
We deserve to avail
Of his knowledge reservoir,
At his sign we'll take a trip. We’re forever learning, the instinct is ingrained,
To uncover truths concealed.
Keep the whale oil burning, until the inkwell’s drained,
And discover what is revealed.
Dusty shelves of untold facts,
Deepest delves for artifacts,
Keep in mind the Sailor,
No Journey Is Too Far!
And we’ll find the grail,
With his guidance from afar,
Place ourselves upon his tracks. One route splits into three just like a Trident staff,
At an en passe where to begin?
Just pick a trajectory and try a different path,
Let your compass needle spin.
You'll succumb to maritime,
So mix rum into your lime,
And drink to the Sailor,
No Journey Is Too Far!
You think you've found the trail
But you've only found the bar!
Cos you've come for a good time. Like the Sycamore disperses wingéd seeds
And they float on the winds of chance
We are born to explore and sail upon the breeze,
Cast your boat to a brined expance.
When you want a change of pace,
Take a jaunt and change your place,
Put your trust in the Sailor,
No Journey Is Too Far!
The wanderlust is there for
You’re an adventur-ar!
A savant of passageways. When the clouds of doubt and worry eliminate the view,
You must anchor to what you can't see
From your charts, maps and orrery you’ll learn what you must do,
Like a plank or a zyzygy
You will find the route that’s straight,
Let his lines illuminate!
Take the lead of the Sailor,
No Journey Is Too Far!
When you read what will fail or
Succeed within the stars,
Whose designs reveal your fate. The uncivilised shall become a proselyte,
It's our duty to impart
What we've realised through our logical insight,
They can't refute: we are too smart.
It's the reason we insist
That the heathen fantasist
Convert to the Sailor,
No Journey Is Too Far!
Don't subvert what he'll say for
He is an exemplar,
It is treason to resist. Now we understand when knowledge is pursued
A disciple can be tricked.
While our feet are still on land, there are texts to be eschewed,
It is vital to restrict.
Academics learn they ought
Be systemic in their thought
To be true to the Sailor,
No Journey Is Too Far!
So pursue the Whale
But don't end up in its craw(r)!
We're authentic, but we're taught. With a heart of bronze and a legendary skill,
We will thrive on daring deeds.
Hurtling 'twards new dawns for a temporary thrill,
We're alive when we are freed.
So we’ll weather any storm,
Can’t be tethered, shan’t conform!
To chase the Sailor,
No Journey Is Too Far!
So embrace the danger,
Hoorah, hoorah, hoorah!
And together we’ll brave the harm.
There’s a sextant we have espied.
