A Forest Inquiry
General Summary
Eonan gathered a couple of companions to help him venture to The Black Forest. Bombo and Matten answered his call. They travelled south through Havens Escape and into the forest. As they drew near to the lake in the forest, they came across a group of gnoll ghouls. After destroying them, Eonan communed with various forms of nature to learn what had happened to the area. Birds told him “Evil, Evil!” The trees didn’t know much, as not much had happened near them. But when he communed directly with evil, he learned that nature had been dealt a massive blow. Trees were dying, animals seemed to be gone. There was one bright spot in the area. Heading to that spot, they came across the remains of a group of clerics and paladins of Lathander. Lead by Zon, they have been fighting for some time. The party learned that while the Lathanderites had experienced early success, the constant pressure of evil coming through portals had started to whittle them down. They were determined to hold out to the end, smiting the evil before them. However, the help of the party was welcome. Spending the night there, Eonan and Matten worked together to bolster the camp’s defenses with walls made of the ground and forest around them. Eonan left an animated tree to defend them for 11 days.
The next day, they headed out to find a path through the trees described by Zon. Having found the path, they fought through ambushes of ghouls not seen before in the forest Matten was felled by a mighty blow which a ghould managed to turn from itself from Bombo. Bombo and Eonan continued on until finally coming to a shrine to Doresain, the King of Ghouls. There they fought a ghast cleric and a few other ghouls. Eonan’s companion was felled in that fight, but they drove off the cleric and destroyed the other ghouls. Eonan cast hallow on the place to cleanse it of evil.
