Atonement

General Summary

Azim, falling out of favor from his deity, knew he needed to regain the light that he stepped away from. Calling for allies in an effort to atone for his misdeeds, Bombo, king of Fjordhaven, answered his call to assist. Meeting to discuss their plans at his castle, he is interrupted by and unexpected guest. Though asked to identify themselves, they simple pass a note the Azim, and in the blink of an eye, vanish.

Azim examines the note, and it informs him to travel east to find an oasis, and not to rest until he does so. Following its instruction, The two with their followers headed out into the sun, and some preparings for the desert's harsh conditions.
Upon finding the oasis, the was initially empty. Nothing around seemed noteworth, and the oasis was rather small. Reviewing the note he saw, it stated to remain until noon. He and Bombo camped, but out of caution, he chose not to rest for the night until noon arrived.

As soon as the sun was at its peak over the oasis, the sky darkened, and there was no source of light, save the one that shown behind the tall head of the avatar of Horus-Re. Immediately seeing the god's visage, Azim threw himself into the dirt before him, along with Bombo. Horus-Re informed Azim that the power he was using was the last vestiges of his father's power, and Re is dead. In order to gain regain his divine powers, he would have to pledge to Horus-Re, and submit himself to three trials. The first task given was the Trial of Wills. Azim was tasked with escorting a caravan from Raqib to Kishdanhar and ensure its safe passage, and Horus-Re warned him about letting his emotions get the better of him.

Setting out, Azim and Bombo met with the individual, disguised as best they could. They met with an orc, transporting slaves, fooling Bombo by claiming they were indentured servants. Azim was conflicted, as confused as to his task. He noticed the symbol of Horus-Re, a hawk above, watching how it unfolds. After a day of travel, the party noticed a large draconic shape flying over, before landing in front of the caravan. A large blue dragon stood before them, and demanded tribute for safe passage in its lands. While talking over an appropriate amount to source for passage, an ugly, misformed looking dwarf creature appeared to Azim. This was the form of Bes, the trickster god, tempting him to simply allowing the dragon to take the life of the caravan leader, and be on their way. He pointed out that it was simply easier, and he didnt need to worry about protecting those who enslave others. Azim took this into consideration for a moment, but decided to finish negociations and finally finish his work. Dropping the caravan at their destination, they returned to the oasis.

Once again waiting until high noon, the oasis was shrouded in darkness, except the light of Horus-Re. He commended Azim on his work, despite his feelings he was able to follow instruction. He informed Azim that a portion of those slaves were delivered followers of Isis, trying to infiltrate a cult of Set. Horus-Re reminded Azim that he does not always know the answers, and not all thing require change. The next task required of Azim was the trial of might. There were some people who planned to attack and inflict pain on the local city of Raqib, Horus-Re demanded they be brought to justice.

Azim Set out, Bombo behind him. As they approached, they discussed strategy of trying to infiltrate the group as supporters to get directly to the ringleader. When they landed, two barbed devils spoke with them them telepathically, telling them to leave as they will torch the lands. Hearing this, Bombo broke all efforts of subterfuge and attacked. Bes appeared once more to Azim, asking him why he was bothering, pointing out that they are only planning on attacking his enemies, and that it was not worth his time to save those who would not do the same for him. He pondered the point before deciding the innocent people in the city did not deserve the fate that was awaiting them should he not intervene. After cutting down the devils around him, they pressed on to find the leader of this group.

Flying above them in a clearing, they heard in a booming voice, they should pray for a swift death and he introduced himself as the legendary, El Fuego. He allowed them to beg for mercy, but as they chose death, he unleashed his fire. Azim was able to dodge out of the way of most of the flames, and though battered and bruised, Bombo was finally able to get in the face of the mage, making life difficult for him. After shattering many of his shields, Bombo brought him down with one final heavy blow. Azim collected his body, and they returned to the Oasis.

Returning to their time, Horus-Re appeared once again, commending them on bringing down a powerful foe. The last task he had is the was a test of loyalty. Horus-Re mentioned he did not care for the current Tetrodora that stands, a neutral trading state does not align with this vision of the world. He ask that Azim pledge to make it a lawful nation, that protects its people through robust law, and to remove evil presences that would detract away from that protection, such as the shrine to Mask. Azim agreed, and with his agreement, the power of Horus-Re's light enveloped him, and he felt his divine power return once more.

Returning home, Azim restores El Fuego back to life. As he came back, Azim demanded that in exchange for his life, he changes his name and asks that he attacks his enemy, the royal Janissaries. El Feugo agrees, deciding his name shall now be El Freio, and shall use the cold instead of flame before he takes off.
