Dawn of the Scarlet Sun
General Summary
An article from the Fjordhaven Chronicles:
A string of murders was recently stopped by a group of brave adventurers. Supposedly, followers of Cyric were in the middle of trying to kill their fifth victim when the hunters suddenly became the hunted. The followers of Cyric including a former follower of Lathander, a gargoyle, and a succubus were on the hunt for local followers of Lathander doing their usual dawn walk when they were ambushed. All four victims ended up having their hearts removed in what appeared to be the makings for some diabolical ritual the perpetrators were planning.
A local official, Hergeg Onyxborn takes all the credit for hiring a group of adventurers to solve the problem. He was unwilling to give their names citing the contract they’d signed protected their identities from being disclosed. Our sources were able to find a number of business cards stuck in doors along the pier with the name of Evette Deadbrow suggesting that she was apart of the investigations and might have been one of the so called “adventurers”
One of the locals praised the adventurers stating, “I told them about those Folsum boys and how much trouble they’ve been getting into. I haven’t had to clean eggs off my house since!”
The mother of those two sons is worried sick saying, “I haven’t seen my boys in weeks. I’m getting worried something happened to them.”
One worker at the docks mentioned seeing them taken by a group of adventurers. He says, “One lady appeared outta thin air and knocked ‘em both unconscious! They were right causing trouble but they didn’t deserve that! It was a lady with her face covered, another woman going on about cartography, an old elvish man, and what looked and smelled like a homeless man.”
Our sources say that the murders were stopped when the group killed the fallen priest and used magic to find the hideout, an old, abandoned shrine. At the shrine was the body of the dead gargoyle and a number of graves that had been dug up. When the city guard inspected further down, they found the remains of several wights. The city was exposed to further tragedy when the guards set off a trap the adventuring party hadn’t seemed to notice and both died due to sonic based injuries. The succubus remains were nowhere in sight suggesting she got away.
