Explore the Verdant Expanse - Hex?
General Summary
To the East
Magnus had the itch to explore and so he gathered a party to head east of Drake’s Harbour just to see what they could find. It wasn't long before something was found. As Magnus, Covak, Dana, and Aurok, traveled through the forest of the Verdant Expanse they each began to notice that someone or something invisible was attempting to remove items from their belts and packs. This "something" managed to sneak a potion out of Covak's bag and run off with it, giggling. They watched as the potion bottle seemingly traveled through mid-air and dropped on the ground several feet away from them. When Covak attempted to retrieve his potion, he disappeared. Dana quickly went after him, also disappearing. It took some deliberating on the part of Magnus and Aurok but they both decided that they should follow suit in case their party members were in trouble. The party found themselves transported, by some means, to an area they had never seen before. It was hot, the air was dry, dust kicked up when you walked, and the landscape was flat as far as the eye could see. The only exception were a few rocky outcroppings here and there. While attempting to climb to higher ground to get a better perspective Dana and Covak disturbed a swarm of scorpions. Covak put as much effort as he could into taking out his ladder to climb out of harms way while Dana dowsed them in cooking oil, apparently preparing to cook them. Foes out of reach, the scorpions retreated back into their burrow. Not knowing where they were or how to return home, the party decided to travel north, in hopes of finding a local settlement. After hours of walking in the heat with nothing in sight, they veered toward a small collection of rocky columns for some shade. Nesting there, was the protector of the region: Clae the Conqueror! Clae, a Copper Wyrmling, informed the party that they were in his domain and as its protector he would destroy any who threatened it. Covak used his skills of diplomacy and spoke to Clae in his native dragon tongue, convincing Clae that the party meant no harm and were only trying to find their way home. Clae the Conquerer then offered to guide them to the edge of his domain but apologized he could go no further. He could not leave his domain unprotected. He drew a crude map in the dust on the ground - sand to the south, trees to the west, white topped mountains to the north, and water to the east. Clae mentioned that they would find humanoid settlements if they traveled to the sandy area. They camped overnight at this spot, on a column thirty feet off the ground, with Clae as their guardian. Clae the Conquerer kept a viligant watch (just kidding, the Wyrmling fell asleep and slept soundly all night long). Dana did not sleep soundly at all. The sounds of "scritching" and "skittering" on the ground floor kept her awake most of the night. When she did sleep, she was plagued with nightmares. None were brave enough to peak over the edge of their camp spot to see what might be making the sounds and so the night passed only somewhat peacefully. True to his word, Clae the Conquerer, began to lead them toward the place of sand. Along the way the party enountered several dangers - a dust digger that tried to swallow them whole, a tribe of Gnolls bent on defending their territory, and three giant scorpions. Each moment of combat seemed to cause Clae the Conquerer to disappear, only to reemerge with praise for the party in passing his "test." Magnus noticed that any time he used magic, the result was more than intended. Several times a musical instrument would appear, as if summoned, in addition to his channeling. Covak's sword also seemed to produce unusual results in addition to his normal damage. Party members were regularly being turned invisible, or would become afflicated with some condition that made no sense. Eventually, the party began to expect these chaotic occurances any time that they used magic. After another night filled with the sounds of nightmares, and a full day of walking in the intense dry heat, the party made it to the edge of Clae's domain and into the Sandswept Desert Desert. From there, now knowing where in Pandora they were located, traveled south-west to Fjordhaven and back to Xiomara via the portal. The party decided to honor their brave guide and named the newly discovered region, The Chaotic Claelands.
