Finding a Companion
General Summary
Meako gathered some friends together to help him find a furry friend to be his adventuring partner. He was joined by Covak, Dana and Magnus. They set out from Xiomara and travelled east along the road. After half a day of travel, they decided to head north into the woods. They pushed through strong wind and rain and eventually came to a clearing with a large leather tarp staked to the ground and tied into the trees, creating a shelter from the wind and rain.
Under that tarp, they met a group of hunters who were out culling wolves. After some conversation, the party worked to help them clean up a few wolf carcasses and cook their evening meal. Eventually, a few more hunters arrived and after discussing where to find more wolves, the party was invited to spend the night. Agreeing, the hunters set up a second tarp, expanding the shelter and shared their meal of wolf stew. While sitting under the tarp, the party learned that the hunters were planning to use every part of the wolves, in order to obey the laws. They also got the impression that they'd rather not have to go through the work.
The next day they headed out to a pond which the hunters had nearly surrounded with traps. Approaching from the west, as per the hunter's suggestion, they just barely heard the whimpering of a wolf. Moving toward the sound, they found a wolf, just barely older than a pup, nuzzling a dead wolf in a bear trap. Meako tried to make friends with the wolf, but it at first started to growl and act aggressively. Using a spell, Meako managed to calm the wolf for a time. With the rest of the party standing by to assist if needed, Meako spent some time offering the wolf treats until it started to eat from his hand. Then Dana managed to disable the bear trap holding the dead wolf and the party carried it with them as they made their way back to Xiomara, Meako baiting the young wolf along with more treats until it started to follow without them. As they drew near to the city, the young wolf grew more hesitant, but some gentle coaxing from Meako finally convinced it to follow him into the city, where he proceeded to continue making friends with it.
