Fire's Deadly Sin

General Summary

Lucky posted a call for adventurers to visit the Plane of Fire. While the crew discussed how to get there they were accosted by a haughty noble named Guffery the Magnificent who assumed they were adventuring to the Plane of Fire on his behalf. He begins talking about how much an honor it must be for them to go on this adventure to restore his name. When they explain they have no idea who he is, Guffery becomes quite confused. Why else would you go there he exclaims? The party learns that Guffery was cheated by an efreete named Baashi the Intrepid and that he has quite a stash of treasure ripe for the taking. Guffery agrees to plane shift them there, or rather have them plane shifted, and give them the passphrase for the door (which the party proceeds to forget about) in exchange for the party to agree to rob Baashi. As this is an easy win, they agree and are given a promisary note for planar travel.

Meeting Caranwe Dalen of Lathander, Guffery's cleric, they are beset by questions about how they plan on surviving such a hostile environment. "Do you have endure elements? How are you going to cross the molten ocean of fire, you do have spells right?" she asks. They do not realize that she is willing to casts several buffs on them, and charge the costs to Guffery's bill. After failing to convince her to come along the party is poofed 365 miles off target, over an ocean of fire.

Looking around they see very little of interest, and no obvious landmarks. Zephyr and Lucky walk along the lava as though it were a hard surface thanks to magical items while Adonis floats overhead. Adonis then flies up with a telescope and scouts a whaling ship. Running over the ocean towards it they are met with crossbows aimed in their direction. Deciding not to murder the crew they negotiate passage in exchange for work aboard the boat.

Three days are spent capturing eels, and watching mephits gather ore from under the moten lava. They eat eel and learn a little about Baashi and the City of Eldfall where he lives.

The town attracts meteors due to the magnetic plates the city is constructed of, and has a large number of salamander humanoids wandering around and protecting the town. The begin harrasing guards and finding little help in their quest until Zephyr sees a half dragon lizard crawl out of the ocean and begin wandering along the plates. He immediatly tries to pet it but has to dodge away as it's tail swings at him. He tries again and this time is bitten hard. The creature, now angered by unwanted advances, breathes fire on Zephyr, Adonis, Lucky, and an innocent guard. Zephyr then beats the creature unconcious, wakes it up, and then starts grappling it into submission. Eventually the creature submits and accepts Zephyr as it's rider.

A small crowd had gathered watching this spectal and a Gnome named Omad arrived clapping and congratulating them on their heroic deed. He invites them to have a drink and listen to an opportunity he would like to propose. Over drinks he explains of an Effreet, who we later learn is named Nainarv, and his overabundance of money and lack of caution. It becomes quite clear that this is a trap, but our heros disable traps the barbarian way! They agree and set out, but not before learing a bit about Baashi the Intrepid and the location of his residence.

Omad delivers them to a friend of his named Verrel of Kossuth who offers to sell magical items. Adonis purchases four potions of what he thinks are cure light wounds, but Verrel sells him potions of Faith Healing instead. She has been promised a cut of whatever loot is stolen from our heroes by Omad and doesn't want the potion to actually help them. Of course if they worshiped her god Kossuth, then she supposes they deserve to triumph. The party is none the wiser of her treachery.

Walking into this giant mansion they decide to leave their pet Huey at the door. Huey is what they named the half dragon lizard they previously bested. Inside they see an Efreete who, unbeknowst to them, is communicating telepathically with Omad. Once inside he immediatly attacks dropping a wall of fire on Zephyr. Omad tells a joke about fools wandering into a trap which Zephyr finds hallarious, so funny that he immediatly falls over laughing. His possesed hand, however, is not amused. Adonis lightning walks through the efreete while Lucky trips him. The battle is over quickly though and although several are badly injured, none were killed beside Nainarv. They awaken Omad who professes ignorance and tries to bluster his way free. Zephyr somehow convinces him that they will let him go free in exchange for information, then stabs the lying Gnome in the back. Before he died everyone learned of a party at Baashi's place in three days. All three bodies (Omad, Nainarv, and Omad's guard) are fed to Huey.

The next three days are spent enjoying their new mansion until several cleaning ladies arrive. It is learned that the owners are away, and are not actually Nainarv. This explained why the house was covered in sheets to protect against dust. The ladies are tied up in the kitchen and left there while the party heads off to the party.

During the last few days the party managed to get tailor made suits which allowed them to fit right in. They were concerned they would need to steal invitations, but Omar had lied about that detail and no invintations were needed. It was a bustling party with a band, several games, and a few fighting imps.

Zephyr, finding Baashi, begins chatting him up distracting him and also learning the details of Guffrey's blunder. Adonis turns invisible, while Lucky spills a drink on the guard. They then knock the guard out and hide him inside the door. Luckily his call for help was mostly ignored by the occupied guests. Zephyr is invited to a drinking game where he begins imbibing a drink called Janx Spirit which is made from a poison called Witch-Hunter’s Sword. The game is played by attempting to convince a mind controlled brownie to fill the others contentant's glass, whoever has the greater force of will wins the round while watching the other drink. Each drink saps the will making you more likely to continue to lose.

Running around the estate Lucky and Adonis encounter a guard each and knock one out, while Adonis hides. They find a bath filled with blood on top of a fire with bodies scattered around the room, a dining room, and a kitchen but no treasure room. Finally a group of servants encounter Lucky and explain where the bedroom is. Running downstairs he walks right into a Faceless Statue Trap where he is nearly turned to stone. Adonis catches up and the two of them take down a Large fire elemental. Forgetting about the passphrase they spend half a minute beating down the door to Baashi's bedroom.

Meanwhile Zehpyr is badly loosing a drinking game and instead resorts to breaking the cups which is quite effective. So far he has drunk 5 doses of the poison whereas Baashi has not taken a single sip.

Inside the bedroom is seven slaves with visable bruises on their faces, sleeping quaters for them, a giant bed, two cobra statues, and a fifty foot ceiling held up by eight pillars. They notice a large chest, four giant gems in the pillars, and eight wardrobes. The slaves are convinced to flee while Adonis begins removing a gem, and Lucky bashes a chest open. After removing two gems they begin noticing the walls start melting and a crash is heard in the distance. Lucky starts looting the wadrobes and Adonis continues prying gems out of the walls.

Zephyr has now destroyed 3 glasses and managed to get Baashi to drink one dose of poison, but is feeling quite foggy from the many drinks he has had already. Baashi has convince a mage to begin repairing the cups but is having difficulty repairing them as quickly as Zephyr can destroy them. About this time several guards run up to Baashi and tell him about intruders. Baashi then steps to leave while Zephyr asks if he wishes to accept defeat. Some words are exchanged when a large crash is heard as the building begins to collapse. Baashi accepts defeat and snatches the brownie for a snack. Zephyr requests the brownie be given as the prize. Baashi tosses the poor brownie to Zephyr then flyies down towards his room only to run into the slaves that were recently released.

Zephyr tells the brownie to meet him at Verrel of Kossuth's shop while he watches Baashi execute the slaves. The two race down the stairs and encounter Lucky and Adonis. By this point the pillars are visably melting and collapse is imminant. They fight and Baashi turns invisible attempting to escape, but Lucky kills him. They start running up the stairs but are too slow, the ceiling collapses on them.

Covered in dust, half an hour later, the party pulls themselves out of the rubble and sees a large crowd watch the building sink into the lava. No one is interested in stopping them.

Back home, with their new brownie they take the gems to have them appraised. Two of the three gems, it is explained, contain souls trapped inside them. Zephyr immediatly smashes them releasing the soul, and vows to ressurect them.
