Helping Mama - Head of a Wolverine

General Summary

Mama Oda, the odd, reclusive mage who lives in the swamps outside of New Saltmarsh is always in need of adventurers to do minor tasks for her. Covak Morturium saw a way to make some easy money and put together a party to aid him in his quest.
Meeting up at the tavern in Fjordhaven, the party then traveled along the road through Stag's Redoubt, Willowdale, and into New Saltmarsh.
Needing their beauty rest, they camped out between Fjordhaven and Stag's Redoubt. However, their beauty rest was interrupted by bandits hiding out in the trees. Several arrows decended upon them before they were able to get to their feet for a fight. One bandit got away, but the other two were eventually slain. Meako expressed disappointment in not being able to land a hit. They all went back to sleep, expecting the rest of the night to remain calm.
However, it did not. Just before dawn, Magnus Brasshand caught an odd stench of rot in the air as a rider on a horse came traveling from the west toward Stag's Redoubt. With his companions asleep Magnus Brasshand decided to try to remain unnoticed and let the rider pass. However, the Juju Zombie took notice of them and immediately attacked. The party awoke, yet again, and fought back hard. At first, it seemed that this threat might overtake them but they perservered and the undead...uh, died. Meako celebrated his success in combat this time around.
Deciding to stay in settlements for the rest of their trip they eventually found themselves in New Saltmarsh. After spending some time asking around for directions, they rented a small rowboat and head out into the swamps for Mama Oda's house. The smallest of them, Meako, was the only one who managed to actually row the boat. Along the way they encountered disease ridden giant flys, which they managed to swat back. Arriving outside the house, they indeed noticed the immense crocodile, Clovis, that Mama Oda had mentioned in her board post. Being rule followers, they left him alone as instructed.
Covak Morturium barely kept himself from falling into the swamp when the ramp to the house gave way under him. At the door, the party was greeted by a man with listless eyes and a bright smile, plastered on his face. Smoke seeped out of the house as they entered. Mama Oda welcomed them and instructed them on where they could find a wolverine and that she needed it's head. She asked each member to leave behind a small item of value as a "show of good faith" that they would return with what she requested. The party found this highly suspicious. However, their desire to get paid won over and each left a small item in Mama Oda's care.
Wolverine's being creatures who dwell in colder regions, the party headed north to the Arbour Kingdom via the portal in Fjordhaven. Arriving in Xiomara they were surprised to find themselves waiting in an entrance line. The not-so-thrilled guard gave them each a 5 day pass and sent them on their way. After they paid their entrance fee, of course. Covak Morturium complained about waiting in line.
Meako's survival skills came in handy yet again as he was able to pick up on wolverine tracks, leading the party to it's location. However, upon arrving at the end of the tracks, no wolverine could be found. That is, until it popped up out of the ground at Covak Morturium's feet. Meako climbed up in a nearby tree to safety, Magnus Brasshand did what he could to boost the parties abilities, and Ougha waited for his chance to blast the animal with fire.
The party was patient and methodical and after making several appearances above ground, the wolverine was slain. Meako and Covak Morturium saw it's head removed. Ougha, having some pent up energy, cast Burning Hands at the nearest tree, lighting it on fire. The rest of the party, surprised, began to do what they could to put out the flames, while Ougha stood and watched it burn with glee. Eventually, when the fire began to spread, Ougha realized they had a problem and dispelled the flames.
They then headed back, traveling through the portal in Xiomara to Fjordhaven, checking out and paying their fee, and eventually on to New Saltmarsh. Covak Morturium again complained about waiting in lines.
Returning to Mama Oda's they presented the wolverine head and were paid for their trouble. Their items were returned to them and Mama Oda encouraged them to return if they ever needed to make a little extra gold.
