Hunting in the Green
General Summary
Marco Mourningflare saw a board post calling out to would be hunters to come to the Pygmy Forest and decided that he would take a group to go check it out. He met in the Last Stand Tavern in Fjordhaven with Roger Mourningflare and was joined by Salmon and Anathema who were also curious about the board post. After eating some candied sausages and brief introductions, Marco Mourningflare wasn't sure where the Pygmy Forest was. Anathema having gone through that area of the world knew where to bring them and the party traveled to Xiomara.
Upon getting to Xiomara, the party moved onward to Pygmy Village. On the road, they encountered some trees that had been cut down and put in the middle of the road. Sensing an ambush, the party prepared for battle. As Marco starting walking forward, a massive ninja struck him down calling out for Anathema who had disappeared. A bloody and long battle ensued with many of the party members getting injured, but eventually the party was able to kill the ninja of which Anathema brutally cut the head off to interrogate later using the speak with dead spell. After healing a little bit, the party was able to move on to Pygmy Village where some of them stayed in the hospital and others gathered information about where to go.
After a days rest in the hospital and getting the right information, the group left for the Pygmy Forest. After half a day's travel, the party met a lone Satyr in the woods after dark who was willing to show them the rest of the way in exchange for telling him some jokes. After a few more hours of travel, the party was led to a large bonfire in the middle of the woods surrounded by Satyrs and Centaurs. They were immediately greeted and offered ale and food. Shortly after their arrival, another group of wouldbe hunters also arrived. Not wanting to waste too much time, it was explained to the group that they would participate in merrymaking, wrestling matches, hunting, and storytelling in order to prove themselves to Skerrit.
The party started their trials off with a wrestling match. Each party member faced off against one of the other prospective hunters to see who could best the other in wrestling. Each party member chose their person to challenge and after a few rounds of wrestling, it was clear that Anathema was the victor against her opponent and Salmon had been defeated. A little while later Marco Mourningflare conceded when he was pinned and finally after a few more rounds, Roger Mourningflare had his match declared a draw.
Having completed the first challenge, it was time for a hunt. Both parties of would be hunters went their own ways and Marco Mourningflare quickly came up with a plan. Him and his dogs started tracking looking for the Owlbear they were supposed to track down and kill. After about an hour, Marco Mourningflare easily stumbled across some tracks which his dogs took the scent of. There they were led to an open meadow where they encountered two spider swarms. Marco Mourningflare and Anathema realized they wouldn't be much use but Salmon and Roger were both able help disperse the swarms without too much harm coming to the group. The party pressed forward and finally came upon the Owlbear they had been tracking. Marco once again made a plan with the coordinated help of Anathema. They split up and decided to use Roger as bait. Before everything went as planned, the owlbear noticed Marco Mourningflare and his dogs and began to head in that direction but Roger Mourningflare realizing their plan was about to fall through stepped out and put it back on track. The owlbear started to charge roger and before it could take a swipe or bite, the pincer maneuver snapped shut and the combined efforts of the three brought it down. After they brought it back, Salmon regaled the centaurs and satyrs with the story of the hunt while Marco Mourningflare assisted in adding some key details. The group recognized by Skerrit continued to party till dawn and then returned to their homes.
