Recover My Property - Horse Thief's Debt
General Summary
Aurok, Eric Shadowvale, and Rhal saw a post from the mysterious M.M. in the Burned Bridges Tavern and Rhal , recognizing the initials, decided to take the job.
Mavron Mews was suspicious of Rhal's sudden reappearance, but a few well-placed obfuscations alleviated the gnome's doubt, happy as he was to have freelancers look into his issue. A male half-elf named Ilowraith, a horse thief, had taken his investment money and disappeared, and the loanshark wanted his money back, with interest. At Eric's suggestion, the party started their search in the The Dusk Chapel, but the high priestess was unable to help herself, despite Rhal's considerable donation. She instead pointed them to an eccentric mage known as Alakazam, who scryed on their target, revealing a woman in a jail cell. Tired of the restrictions on magic, Alakazam moved his residence to Fjordhaven before dismissing the party from his magnificent mansion. Happy for the free trip, though missing their horses, they threatened a clerk but found no sign of the red-haired woman in the capital's prison. The next jail they visited was in Stag's Redoubt, and they found a prison guard happy to help them out for a few gold pieces.
Despite the obvious difference in appearance, Ilowraith was convinced to trust his would-be saviors so long as they helped him escape. A bribe to the guard saw him release an undead as a distraction. The next day, the "woman" passed the prize: a large diamond, and left the party "her" hat of disguise as a thank you. Another incident with an undead cow not stopping them, Mr. Mews was happy to receive his payment in full, gave the diamond a spit-shine with his tongue, and awarded the party a gold purse for their trouble.
