Running on an Empty Stomach
General Summary
An Article from the front page of the Trader’s Post Newspapers:
STIRRINGS IN THE Grudge Mountains!! It’s been reported that a group of adventurers recently took up the call from the drow forces to help them feed their armies. Scouts have been reported seeing increased sightings of goblins and the drow themselves had board posts asking that people gather food. We don’t know the results of what occurred in the mountains, but the board post asking for help has been removed and we’re unsure if the army is still planning a strike somewhere in The Havens or if they’ve moved on. A group of adventurers decided to respond to the board post asking for assistance from the drow. Drawn by their desire for gold, Yaling gathered together Eizer, Chase, Wyrn, and Baru’agar. The group gathered in Xiomara at the Flame of the Forest Inn unsure where to start. After getting passed a secret note, the group left the inn searching for someone with information. They quickly tracked the note giver to a crowd of citizens listening to a public speaker talking about the war. After a few minutes of listening, the crowd died down and the party received information on where to go from the speaker without getting his name. Seemingly unconcerned about that, the party traveled through multiple portals until they got to the city of Traders Cusp. Their destination was The Grudge Mountains northwest of Stag's Ballad to the ruins of Breadbasket.
The party traveled many nights struggling a little with the weather as it began to get colder in the hills. One particular day during their travels, the party accidentally disturbed a swarm of harmless bees that were looking for a new nest. While none of them got stung or hurt, the pollen and dust from the bees caused some of the adventurers to be sickened. It wasn’t until the quick thinking of Chase who threw an Alchemist’s Fire that finally got the swarm to disperse. After a few more days of travel, the party came up to Bread Basket and a drow encampment. Baru'agar and Yaling took point on the negotiations with the drow who were particularly paranoid. After some talks, the party was told that the prize they were looking for was a mountain auroch which would provide much meat for the group. With their orders and not desiring to stay in the camp full of drow and goblins, the party continued up the mountains.
On the first night, the party set up camp and with the help of Baru’agar were almost all able to stay awake due to the keep watch spell. Not having enough magic though, Eizer chose to be the member to fall asleep. The nightwatch went fairly calmly except for a couple hours before dawn when Chase was suddenly attacked by a mountain lynx. The party sprung to action but were unable to fell the cat before Eizer who had just awoken was almost killed. Baru'agar was able to bring Eizer back from unconsciousness using a cure light wounds spell.
The next day, the group discovered a number of dead bodies with the heads all smashed against the mountain. As they continued forward, they found even more and began to start hearing the sounds of metal pounding against stone. Coming to a clearing, they discovered the source of the noise. A lone goliath with a large hammer breaking stones in search of Jade. After a brief conversation, they chose not to pick a fight with the goliath who claimed that part of the mountains as his own and moved on.
Later that day, they finally found their target. The mountain auroch saw them approaching and lowered his horns towards them. It was a test of mettle. Who would charge first? The auroch charged and a quick but brutal battle ensued. Nearly everyone in the party was able to lay a blow on the beast killing it with only Baru'agar taking any major injuries. After healing up, the party took their felled beast back to the drow army camp exchanging it for treasure and coins before going back to their desired cities on Pandora.
