Seeking Power

General Summary

Azim desired to increase his power but was unsure of how to accomplish this. He decided that the Grand Library would be the best place to find information on ways to do so. He posted a want ad for anyone willing to help keep him safe once he went after whatever source of power he identified.   Milo, having traveled with Azim previously, and knowing there was likely good pay involved, traveled to the Grand Library to meet him.   Meanwhile, Azim decided to wait at the local tavern in Warhaven to see if anyone would answer his ad. That is when he met Mull, the aquatic elf with bones around her neck. Mull wasn't entirely sure about Azim but decided the trip was worth a little extra cash.   The two traveled to the Grand Library where they found Milo waiting for them. Milo immediately demanded payment from Azim for his attendance, to which Azim complied. Once paid, Milo was ready to jump in.   The gentlemen at the front desk required them to pay the necessary 100gp to use the library. Milo decided he could keep guard over Azim while hanging out at the front entrance, so that is where he remained.   As Azim and Mull began to peruse the shelves of books, an older woman, bent over with a walking stick, approached and offered her help. She was the sweetest thing! And moved slower than molasses! Her droning on and on about her grandson all but drove Mull insane. It wasn't long before Mull also abandoned Azim.   The old woman showed Azim book after book, many times backtracking through multiple sections of the library, always diverting to tell him a story of her grandson or remind him what section they were in. Eventually, after many "goose chases" Azim had a few ideas of sources of power he could look into, including the idea that a Nightmare could serve as a mount and partner in future endeavors. The old woman informed him that Nightmare's had been spotted from time to time in the cliffs near the library. And so once Azim was able to pull himself away from the old woman's prattering, he convinced Mull and Milo to camp out with him on the cliffs and await the appearance of a Nightmare.   Using his slave as bait, Azim and his friends waited patiently. They were rewarded by the appearance of a Nightmare. Azim attempted to make a deal with it, asking it to be his partner. The Nightmare, being a harbinger of death, desired just that and asked Azim to prove that he would be a worthy partner by killing either Mull or Milo. Deciding that he could not betray his friends in this way, Azim refused, and the three fought back against the Nightmare, killing it. Azim then took it's head and the party went their separate ways.
