The Emerald Spire - Cellars Sept 8, 2021
General Summary
Khalid organized a party to venture into the The Emerald Spire. Meeting in Xiomara, the party left on their journey. Due to inclement weather, they pushed on into the night to reach Lakeside on their first night. They did the same thing to reach Dryads Mill the second day. The party noticed a definite increase in the strength of the wind upon leaving The Verdant Expanse, but managed to cling to their saddles and push forward. When they drew near to The Emerald Spire, the wind suddenly stopped. There they met Abernard, who invited them to come sit by the fire and warm themselves. While talking they learned what little they could of the Spire, and paid their entry fee.
Upon entering The Emerald Spire, they found themselves in a dimly lit structure. Dana took the lead, trusting in her dungeon delving expertise to keep them safe. This worked at first, as she managed to pick a lock and get them into a room with a large pit. Their they killed a couple of spiders and burned away all the webs. Going through the door to the south, Dana noticed a pit trap. Marking its location with chalk, they moved through the west door, which was blocked by a portculis. When she approached the portculis, intent on unlocking it, Dana missed a trap and got a frosty touch. However, she managed to unlock it after a while. Upon getting past the portculis, they entered a large throne room. Khalid very quickly offended the occupant, whose name they never learned. After a bit of a haring fight, where Celeb was knocked unconscious, they managed to loot some expensive looking gear off a table and returned the way they had come. Their, Dana found a pit trap, but in attempting to disarm it, fell into the hole. A spider immediately closed it and tried to have a meal in peace. Unfortunately, for the spider, Covak managed to batter the trap back open and with a hail of missiles which all miraculously missed Dana, they killed it. They proceeded into a room which was one large trap, then found secret doors leading out of it. Heading north, they found a room where Dana stumbled into another trap, dropping nets on the ground which she barely avoided. There they fought a zombie which came out of the closet at them. After dispatching this, they found a rubble strewn hallway where Dana found another pit trap, which she marked with chalk. They fought another spider in a room to the south and crawled into a small passage in the ceiling to find supplies squirled away. To the north, they came across a tomb filled with caskets. When Covak pushed the lid off of one, six of the caskets opened to reveal attacking skeletons.
Finally, the party found the final room in the dungeon. It was filled with untold numbers of baby spiders, which swarmed over Covak and Dana. After some well placed throws of bomb and alchemist's fire, the spider babies were murdered. Exiting the dungeon, they shared what they had learned with Abernard, receiving his thanks and reward. He then graciously offered to teleport them to Dryads Mill to get them started on their journey. After resting there for the night, they travelled back to Xiomara, again pushing to reach the next settlement each night.
