Obsidian Expanse

a bleak and lifeless zone of black obsidian, alternating between shattered pits, smooth expanses, and jagged razor-sharp peaks, even the hardiest of Sremic tribes avoid the Obsidian Expanse. lightning crackles from among its peaks, and some say the thunderstorms that lurk within it are alive, sentient and malicious.   However these thunderstorms do bring water, the majority of which flows out of the Expanse into Lecris Bay, providing the secondary water supply for the lake after Highwater. smaller, irregular streams water the desert all around the Expanse's periphery, helping to fuel the Sremic tribes in the area.   In the heart of the Expanse lies the Labyrinth of the minotaurs, conducting their monstrously complex maze.   A large part of the population - and virtually all non-natives - are slave-workers that support the artisan population.   Questions:
  • replace "minotaur" with "Labyrithine"?

Geography

The Labyrinth

The Labyrinth sits in the heart of the expanse, beyond the range of all but the most determined incursions - and those would find themselves poorly-equipped to face the monumental carved edifice that stretches over dozens of miles and represents nearly a thousand years of work by the devoted minotaurs who dwell within it.   though the dizzying interlocking paths of the labyrinth are undoubtedly confusing, their purpose is not to mislead - instead, they form the most granular scale of a vast device, formed by finer and finer carvings into the raw obsidian, the purpose of which is to create, summon, or awake God, the World, or the people - the details of the Plan and its theology is unclear to outsiders. an insular place, of lunatic construction, a tremendous humanitarian disaster to its own, but not actually likely to achieve any strange cosmic master-plan.   within the labyrinth lies a complex network of waterways that help irrigate enclosed fields, sufficient to support the human and minotaur population of the Labyrinth - around 30,000 total. It is unknown how the minotaurs came to be in the Labyrinth, or whether they are related to the Minotaurs of the Coppercrest Sea. they are not a uniformly bull-headed race, instead having various infusions of obsidian, bull, and lightning. they count many powerful mages among their number.   types of minotaurs:
  • Anvakai: obsidian minotaurs, heavy-sets. their mages are able to breathe a strange heat-haze cloud that converts/coats matter into obsidian, then is able to telekinetically move obsidian. this movement has a large amount of inertia behind it, like a charging bull, unless done slowly and carefully?
  • Golgomai: lightning minotaur (Zebu). Blue-furred, skinny minotaur (head and legs are bull, torso is human). mages are able to turn into a horned lightning-bolt that leaps over a short distance at extreme speed. This leap can pass through solid objects, which can injure/break, stun, or leave them undisturbed. he can also produce short-lasting lightning "zaps" that hurt and stun and can kill in some cases.
