The Spotted Cap
The Inn of the Spotted Cap (often referred to as "The Spotted Cap") is a large noble town house and its associated nearby buildings that have been converted to function as Stonebridge 's primary inn, bar, and restaurant. The main building has had a large sunshade built over the porch into the street shaped as a large mushroom cap. It's been painted with spores that glow in dark conditions, and the door to enter is flanked by a pair of short and stout guards.
It's staffed, owned, and maintained by a circle of shroomfolk of indeterminate number. The shroomfolk are friendly enough to travelers and other townsfolk (though they are considered a bit cowardly and danger-averse) - many locals spend time enjoying the excellent and cheap food provided at the Spotted Cap. The shroomfolk are friendly enough to travelers and other townsfolk (though they are considered a bit cowardly and danger-averse) - many locals spend time enjoying the excellent and cheap food provided at the Spotted Cap. Services available here include:
- Food - The buildings enclose a sizable courtyard that the shroomfolk have converted to a garden. They are excellent farmers and herbalists, so their produce tends to be quite flavorful and healthy.
- Drink - The shroomfolk brew a flat but popular shroomfolk beer.
- Lodging - There are usually several rooms available for travelers and traders who come through town.
- Drugs - The bar deals in hallucinogenic mushrooms (these blue mushrooms are gathered from afar and require some treatment and processing for their proper effects). These are considered mostly harmless, but not appropriate for children and not recommended for Small people.
- Trade - A nearby vacant lot has a ramshackle barn built on it wherein the myconids have a standing offer to buy anything that decomposes at a fair price. Local farmers sell husks, hunters sell offal and other inedible bits of their prey, fishermen can trade fish too rotten to eat, and so on. The general assumption is that the shroomfolk use it as fertilizer in their garden, and many don't think much beyond that explanation.
