Session 5 and 6: Life's a Witch; Rainbow in the Dark
General Summary
As we materialize back into existence in the bar, we have to scramble to find Tonari before he slips away for good. So true to our party’s nature in any game we play apparently, we split up. Morthos takes to the roofs while Owkbanok tries to keep up with him and me and TT head to the streets. Eventually, Morthos and Owkbanok manage to find Tonari’s sister, Inami. After Morthos manages to scare the fuck out of some other guy who was on the roofs, he gets stuck helping Owkbanok lie to Inami to convince her that they’re totally not looking for her brother for shady reasons.
She gets treated to a delightful argument between those two because their tension quickly gets the better of them both. Meanwhile, me and TT collect information and are pointed to a shitty part of town. We find the place Tonari’s hiding out in, but TT can’t get the door unlocked. He’s hired people to keep us out, but we make quick work of these dudes before finally busting the door down. After finding a trap door, we drop on down to find Tonari probably in the midst of a panic attack, but trying to play it cool. TT decides that now is a perfect time to hold a guy for ransom and as the rest of the crew catches up, we’re stuck in a sticky situation as TT is thoroughly convinced the rest of us are going in with her ransom plan.
Shot down in a blaze of glory, we make an agreement with the tiefling twins. We’ll all go and kill the lizard witch together, we get her loot, and they pay us some gold and they can be on their way. They agree to this and now we have to trek two days back into the jungle that nearly claimed our lives the last time and attack at night. Now, the thing about plans is, they don’t always go…well, according to plan. The witch should be asleep in her treehouse and our stealthiest members will slip inside and assassinate her. While TT and Morthos prepare to attack, the rest of us get in position on the porch in case things go south. Which pro tip; things always go south.
TT climbs in through the window, setting off a bunch of bells and waking the witch. But with her being invisible, the witch thinks nothing of this and gets up to make tea. Little did she know this would be the tea to die for (loud booing) as TT strikes. Morthos, under the guise of invisibility, sits in the window to line up an attack. With everybody else shoving their way into the treehouse, my line of sight is blocked so I move to the window to fire off some arrows, not realizing Morthos is there. I accidentally shoot him, which is super embarrassing, but hey; he can’t blame me. The party inside is lit, quite literally, as Owkbanok sets part of the house on fire. Time is of the essence now, but we manage to kill the witch and her familiar before grabbing what we can and getting the hell out of there.
With that said and done, we use her magic coin one last time to teleport back to Serengeti where Tonari and Inami agree to join our crew. We take them to meet our captain, who happily welcomes them in, and then takes the rest of us upstairs to discuss promotions as we’ll be acquiring a larger ship. Owkbanok becomes our crew’s boson, TT our navigator, and I become the scout. Morthos is left without a promotion and pissed off by this, he heads downstairs to get piss drunk. A man from his past eventually coaxes him into a back alley, talking about how Morthos stole his title as the best thief on the sea and Owkbanok follows to keep watch. Things heat up very quickly.
While on call, I hear the fight in the alley and seeing both Owkbanok and Morthos caught in the fray, I throw open the window to help out. Bow drawn, dick out, just like the gods intended. My client is frustrated and after minutes, the fight does down and so does my client’s patience and they storm out of the room. Morthos is killed in the fray, so me and Owkbanok cut down Jude before his surviving buddies take off out of the alley. TT sees them leave and arrives just in time to hear the news that our sand loving friend has finally kicked the bucket. We collect the body and go to meet the new crew the captain picked up.
In the line-up is a woman that stands out as her bright, multi-colored hair and shifting eyes is a bit of an oddity.
She basically looks like a human unicorn and she’s piss drunk, talking to her lover about the amazing cruise they both think they’re going on. Her name’s Amelia and to us, it seems like we’ve gotten stuck with some noble’s bratty daughter. After introductions and learning she can do some magic, we reluctantly go along with this and come morning, Morthos is brought to the temple of Vesmara where he’s given a proper sailor service and cast off to the sea. We all board our new ship that is in desperate need of repairs and those of us that got promotions now get our own private quarters. We’re moving up in the world, kids!
Everybody tends to their new duties, except for me as there’s not much a scout can do on the ship. I get stuck teaching Amelia how to clean and we start with the bathrooms. I show her how to do it and she has the audacity to cast a charm spell on me to try and get me to do her work. It doesn’t work, but I pretend it does for a hot second before grabbing her and shoving her in one of the stalls with the nasty scrubby of doom. Then I head out to casually keep the bathroom door shut with my body so she can’t escape before her duties are done. Before we all head to bed, I make sure to leave the scrubby on her pillow as a reminder of her sins.
Morning time and we set off for the Shipwreck Coast. The ride is difficult to navigate and dangerous and our new pilot is apparently shit at her job cuz she nearly costed us our new ship trying to pull up to the island. Once there, my duties as scout begin and after collecting some new crewmembers, Owkbanok taps out and we bring Tonari along with us to explore the cave system littering the island. The trip inside proves to be a mental trial and a test of our patience as every step of the way, Amelia and TT find themselves arguing over something. With the help of Cayde, my son finds a good way for us to go and we find ourselves in a small jail the goblins have made.
There’s two pigs, three humans, a halfling, and an elf held captive. Figuring we need more meat shields to keep pressing through the caves, we free them all and cook up the pigs for them as it’s clear they’re in need of some food. After a goblin opens the door and goes to run off and alert the others, Amelia hits him with some magic missiles, but the boy still gets away. With our new squad fed and half-heartedly agreeing to go along with us because they have no other choice, we follow the blood trail and eventually find the dead goblin. There’s a light up ahead and we decide to head that way, finding ourselves at another entrance to the cave that leads out into grassy fields.
