Ariamis Madan

Dr. Ariamis Madan (a.k.a. Ari)

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Ariamis was once a talented doctor and alchemist in a small city over five centuries ago. He was the pillar of his community and a workaholic, which strained a few of his relationships over the years. Given the city's proximity to Felidae, it wasn't uncommon for catfolk to wander there in search of a better life. One such catfolk by the name of Muri had caught his eye. Despite the environment she grew up in, she was intelligent and witty, making her the perfect bedside nurse in his clinic. Over time, Muri reciprocated his affections and a few years later, they were married. In their time together, they had two daughters, Rosalie and Delilah.   To Ariamis, it felt like he finally had all he needed in life. He still couldn't give up the tiresome schedule though, often forgetting his anniversary or his daughters birthdays because he was lost in his work. That only worsened once a plague had settled in the city. It was all hands on deck, every cleric and doctor in the area were busy at all hours of the day. After years of trying to make Ariamis come to his senses, Muri had enough. The plague was the final nail in the coffin for their relationship and unbeknownst to him, she had left the city and took their daughters with her. The revelation led to heartbreak, anger, and ended with a numbness that carried him through the worst of his days. Once the smiling, friendly doctor that everyone was willing to turn to, Ariamis was now cold and closed-off emotionally.   The city was crumbling away around him and for the first time in his life, he didn't care. He knew Muri would never take him back like this. If he was the one to eradicate the plague, he'd be a hero and surely she'd come home. When things led to a dead end, he jumped to the next solution. He was lost in his work completely now, slowly going mad while trying to save the faces he knew for decades. Years went by, no cure and no Muri. His experiments thus far were failures. More years passed by and with the plague reemerging every few years like clockwork, Ariamis realized that he'd likely die before he could find a cure. That wouldn't do. He couldn't die. Not when there was so much left to do.   This was Ariamis's downfall as he chased after the dark arts. If science wasn't advanced enough to deal with it, perhaps magic was the answer. Becoming a lich would give him all the time in the world to work, but it came with a price. When he found Muri, he sacrificed her and their daughters to finish the ritual. There was no one left to save. Everything he fought so hard for was gone and so he fled to the mountains to hide from society. For five hundred years, he remained there, experimenting and torturing prisoners that Jordeira Ferus would bring to him.   He had succeeded in crafting an alchemical recipe that, when combined with a bit of necromancy, could bring the dead back to life with their minds still intact. He created more zombies to capture even more prisoners, giving him an ample supply of people to test his "cures" on. He met his end a century later after capturing and torturing Zakina Kociak-Falenmir, Rikius Falenmir, and Lucky Kociak. They escaped into the valley and he was struck down by Kraughton Paka and his phylactery was destroyed by Rikius.   In Ariamis's world, the dead don't stay down forever.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Ariamis acts according to his madness. Instead of feeding souls to his phylactery in order to keep some semblance of sanity, he was more interested in using their "vessels" as test subjects. In his mind, he believes that he's working for the greater good, still convinced that the plague is ravaging the northern continent. He wants to save his people and no sacrifice is too much if it means he can see his family again. To everyone else, he's a demented old man.
