Session 62: Life and Death

General Summary

With how massive our soul-bound rakshasa book is, we use a miracle to break him up into an 18-part series and lock them away on Elathera’s plane so he never has a chance at resurrection again. There isn’t much time to concoct a plan in dealing with Sunyeros, especially with my coronation-assassination coming up in a week’s time. We have three hours to keep her off of our backs while we pour over the rakshasa’s memories, so once some of that information reaches Industria via magic; she disguises herself as Jahangir to meet up with Sunyeros. She tells her that we all vanished to Elathera’s plane to gather some stuff, but we’ll return soon enough.   Sunyeros is less than pleased and goes back and forth with “Jahangir”, Industria managing to keep up a flawless act that no one else can see through. We don’t find every detail of my family’s curse within the rakshasa’s memories, but there’s too much to reasonably go over in such short notice. We learn that the curse made so many family members deathly ill as a means to weaken them in case Jahangir needed a new body for whatever reason. He had plans to take over one of the twins that Sunyeros is carrying and he’s also wove his way into the other families in power. It was all a ploy to steadily take over the islands without much of a fuss from anyone else.     Elathera also learns that despite his “death”, the curse isn’t broken. Along with that, his influence within the Kociak bloodline has doomed us to being magnets for misfortune and tragedy; a fact that I don’t take too well. The curse of terminal illnesses can potentially be broken with some reverse engineering of the spell he cast on us a long time ago, but the misfortune is something that will bleed out of us as the generations go on without his influence. Meaning I’m stuck with that curse for what could be the rest of my life. We all reconvene to decide our next move, Industria now taking on the form of my distant “cousin” that Jahangir used to move amongst the people without arousing suspicion.     We try to enter the family vault, but it’s locked tight and none of us have access to the keys or password to get inside. So that’s another task put on the backburner as we talk over what to do with Sunyeros. Our best choice now is to wait for her to give birth so we don’t risk injuring the babies and then strike her down before the coronation. We’re banking a lot on the waiting game, but it pays off as three days into the week, Sunyeros gives birth. Industria, still in her disguise, is tasked with bringing the tiefling twins to their nursery while the rest of us get into position. We’re waiting to storm the bedroom, so once Industria returns and gifts Sunyeros a cursed brooch; our attack begins. Sunyeros doesn’t work alone though, summoning a few demons to aid her, but it’s all for nothing.     She’s brought down quickly and that’s that…or so we think. Figures are darting around the shadows around us and we realize too late that they’re using time magic on us to get the advantage. They’re professional assassins, called in before Sunyeros had fallen, and they don’t make it easy for us to keep tabs on them. Elathera uses her own time magic so we can plot against them. We figure out where their invisible forms are, so Industria collapses the floor beneath us, sending the assassins down into the basement and revealing them to us. With careful magic, she manages to convince one of them to walk off, but the other two are ready to fight to death.     And so they do! It takes us awhile to carve them down, but we manage and are left with one hell of a mess to clean up, both figuratively and literally.
