Session 84: Mystery Incorporated
General Summary
As the rest of us tear into Yamileth, Elathera steps forward as the only voice of reason in this entire affair. She doesn’t think that anyone needs to die and tries to explain the reasoning behind our actions once more, but Yamileth doesn’t care. Elathera tries to reason with us next, but the only thing on our minds is violence. Rikius is the only one who hears her out and refrains from attacking. With Yamileth distracted by the others, I dart off to paint a symbol on the floor with my blood like a fucking psychopath. If she thinks she can trap us for an eternity, I can do the same damn thing.
With the utterance of something absolutely inappropriate in infernal, Pandemonius is summoned into the chaos and is understandably confused. I tell him about the bullshit Yamileth’s putting us through, so I want her to suffer the same fate, and spend some time in his prison. He’s very excited about this gift and captures her, which leaves Elathera horrified. Industria stays out of this discussion, saying that, “Everyone gets one.”. Louhi is suffering from mental whiplash from all of the chaos we’ve unleashed around her, but seems satisfied about getting a taste of what we can do.
We’re still trapped though. Iolond doesn’t have any information about the details of Yanka’s contracts, but killing her should free all of us. Before I can tell the others, Industria’s already asked Sabella to free us from the curses. Louhi is refusing to leave because she wants the house, so we’ll have to take out Yanka if we want Louhi’s aid in the future. Unfortunately for us, Yanka has “hidden” her death and killing Coffin Man won’t do us any good. We have to find her soul fragment, force it back into her body, and then kill her with a magical artifact. The death has to be a critical hit.
Me, Lucky, Industria, and Elathera still have our daggers of Kronos Severance, but to up our chances, Industria asks Sabella if we can borrow Vihrea’s bow. It’s a big favor to ask for, but Sabella’s willing to do it so long as Industria tells her what we’ve been up to later. After the bow’s given to Rikius, we set out to find any clues as to where Yanka’s hidden her soul. When we reach a spot in the house that shifts, Elathera stops time so that some of us can explore and hopefully find secrets. She finds a box with a sprig key inside, I find a living wall, and Industria finds some sort of Eldritch being inside said wall. They seem docile enough, so we take them with us.
We reconvene with the others…only to realize that Lucky’s missing. Industria isn’t worried, but I panic, and Elathera summons a dog-like alien by the name of Pennywhistle to find them. Even after he helps us find Lucky, who was perfectly fine this entire time, he offers to stick around and help us find Baba Yaga’s soul. He apparently loves a good mystery and we love him, so it’s a good fit. We eventually find ourselves back in the room Lucky was in earlier. I think Yanka’s soul might be in the dark forest we keep seeing outside, but when Elathera jumps out there with the key, she’s met with discordant sounds and a void that teleports her back inside.
The room itself is like a small cabin. There’s a wardrobe full of peasant clothing, stuffed animals lining a bed, and several books and a journal in a language we can’t understand. Elathera can read it though and the journal is Yanka’s diary. She was seemingly the only sorcerer in her original world and left because her clan was ungrateful after all of her help. Industria looks over a cookbook and finds that the key is part of a ritual that allows Yanka to travel wherever she pleases. The only recipe mentioning the sprig key involves dropping it in a cauldron with an enchanted, granite key. It’ll take us to a place called Erizen.
With no other clues pointing to the whereabouts of Yanka’s soul, participating in this ritual is our best bet. We have no idea where the other component is though, but luckily, Elathera can craft one herself…in eight hours. We camp out in this room for sixteen hours to ensure that she’s able to get some rest after she finishes the key.
