Owlswald's tower

General Summary

Chronicler: Kade
Companions:
Histix
Sayris
Body: We stepped out of the town hall to what looks to be a line up of other folks from the village. There is a small rat woman, Salivara, the Cataloguer, taking notes and branding those who are in the line up. There are a number of heavily armed guards. She calls over the adventurers. Looking at Histix and Sayris, Kade suggests that they do what they say. After a number of questions, the team eventually agrees to be processed. Each of the adventurers is asked a series of questions about their species, including what makes them special, before being branded. Kade is branded with GO001, Histix is branded with RG001, and finally Sayris is branded with TI001. After they are branded, she and her guards begin to pack up. After Sayris asks if the brands can track their movements, Salivara simply replies with ‘The livestock do not need to know.’   The team does stop to converse with an old man from the church who informs them the woman had been there all day, slowly cataloguing and branding everyone in town. The adventures eventually head out of town and towards the tower.   They eventually make camp for the night. Histix takes the first watch, with nothing out of the ordinary. Sayris has a second watch, and makes a loud sound breaking a branch on his log. There is a loud cry for some wolves. Sayris noticed 3 wolves coming into the clearing. Sayris woke up both Kade and Histix. In the midst of getting ready, Kade and Sayris try to intimidate the wolves. This fails as Kade tries to roar and intimidate the wolves. The roar comes out as more of a weak sputtering and the wolves begin to press forward.   After a short battle with the wolves, the team dispatches the wolves. Histix and Sayris collect the killing blows between them, with Kade doing most of the damage. The team then rests for the rest of the night.   The group happens upon a broken bridge with a raging river below them. The adventures begin to explore the bridge, and Sayris notices some bushes moving weirdly on the other side of the river bank. To cross, Histix suggests to wade across the river at its shortest point. The team tied a rope to Kade’s waist and the other end to a tree. Kade then waded across the river with Histix on his shoulders. With only a minor incident, Kade and Histix reach the other side and secure the robe to a large rock. Sayris then shimmies across the rope and safely reaches the other side with the team.   As they start to continue their journey, a Goblin and Kobold bolt out of the bushes and demand they pay a large toll to cross. The team tried to ignore the Goblin, but he got more insistent. Sayris had enough, and just charged him. As he reached him, he did a spinning roundhouse kick, planting his boot directly in the Goblin’s chest. The Goblin flew backwards into the water, and was sucked up by the current. The Kobold turns and runs into the bush, as quickly as possible.   The team continues on their adventure, and eventually make it to the tower. The tower looks well kept and fairly new. The door is embossed with the universal symbol of knowledge. Histix approaches and knocks on the door. A voice responds with Whooo’s There. With no other responses, the door slowly opens, and magical darkness shrouds their view into the room.   After trying a few different ways to see into the room, and with Histix, being the brainiac that he is, knowing nothing of what this darkness is, the team decides to walk into the room. As the door closes, it melts aways into the wall and lights turn on and the room illuminates. There are now 4 smooth walls, with just a button in the center.   They push the button and a loud voice starts to countdown, and ominous music starts playing. As panic sets in, Sayris jumps on the pedestal with the button and begins to jump. Each time the button is pushed, the countdown is reset. As the team quickly tries to think of a way to react, they eventually huddle in the corner and allow the countdown to end. At the end of the countdown, music stops and the door opens. This was anticlimactic.   The team slowly enters the next room and are greeted with a corpse and ceremonial dagger in a coffin and another red button. They press the red button and the voice asks them to kill one of their party members. Histix immediately looks at Kade and offers his suggestion to kill the goliath. The team tries various ways to get around killing a member. Kade tries to build a body with all of his trophy parts. Histix tries to hide on Kade’s shoulders again. The team tries to move the body into and out of the coffin.   Eventually the team hits the red button and just says no. The door to the next area immediately opens and the team can proceed.   The next rooms are much smaller and contain some jars and water. The goal is to use the blue jars to fill the teal jar to the exact amount. Sayris and Histix get to work while Kade just hangs in the back trying to stay busy. At one point Kade tries to bring some of the blue jars into the next room’s puzzle, but they shatter instantly. They continue to solve rooms with increasing difficulty and eventually make it out of this puzzle hallway.   As they enter the next room, they see 4 boxes. They each try to push on the boxes and none of them move. Histix had run far into the room and as they pushed, 4 Goblins dropped in from the ceiling with one landing right on Histix’s head. Kade stepped in and started to try and take the bulk of the damage but Histix’s was trapped in the back between 2 Goblins. Sayris was able to get an amazing Short Bow shot out and kill one of the Goblins quickly. Allowing Histix some breathing room. Sayris then takes aim and downs another of the smaller Goblins that was engaged with Kade. Kade took a few more hits, as the team focused their attacks on the final, heavily armored Goblin. As the Goblin, a door materializes to yet another room.   The team moves into the next room and is greeted by a small owl-like creature. He introduces himself as Owlswald, the Psychologist. He is cheerful the team made it through his puzzles and continues to hop around. He also presents the adventurers with some items for completing the trials. Sayris gets a spellbook from Owlswald. He then pulls out a long sword and hands it to Histix. Finally, he hands a short sword to Kade saying, Sneaky sword to do more damage.   As the owl jumps around, Sayris can clearly see the brand on Owlswald’s arm. It is listed as OW002. The team then looked around the tower at the surrounding area, noting down what they could see. They then head out of the tower and back to town.
