The trial of wit

General Summary

Chronicler: Sayris
Companions:
Wilfred
Tim
Sybil   Body: The party traveled to the cave entrance and found 3 potential paths, marked with Strength, Wit, and Endurance, respectively. Strength and Endurance were boarded off, and attempts to clear those paths proved unsuccessful. The party decided their only option was to venture down the middle tunnel, Wit. They were met with a talking female statue, who was repulsed by Sybil’s serpentine nature. When asked about the statue’s distaste of Sybil, she seemed to correlate her to some evil creature simply referred to as “Her”. The statue would not speak Her true name, and had not seen what She looked like (being an immobile statue and all). The party then faced the only way forward: a dark hole in the ground, only just large enough for one person to fit at a time. As each member went in, the tunnel was ever-shifting, spitting out members of the party into different rooms. Luckily for Wilfred, Tim, and Sybil, they were all dispensed into the same room; unfortunately, Sayris was left on his own. The floor was entirely filled with puzzles and trials, each rewarding the player with a way forward in the form of another dark hole, and perhaps a potion of varying quality. Along the way, Sybil split off from Tim and Wilfred, and ended up with Sayris; Tim and Wilfred remained as a team for much of the floor, before splitting up and facing the rest as individuals. After taking each of their tunnels to the penultimate room, all party members were dumped into the same puzzle. Completing that room sent them forward to a man whose only request was to be beaten in a drinking competition or an arm wrestling contest. Wilfred, confidently stepping up first, put up a good fight in the drinking contest, but was outmatched and staggered over to the corner, clearly worse for wear. Sybil, recognizing her strength in Poison Immunity, matched each and every drink the man proposed, winning his respect and gaining the password required to move on.   With the final puzzle completed, the party was greeted by a familiar female statue. She was impressed that we had completed the trial of Wit, as many before us had fallen to it. The statue, again, warned us of “Her”. Upon exiting, they were led to a large cavern that our fellow adventurers had previously cleared. All of the large stone doors were locked, except one set of doors to the north; a man inside expressed complete disinterest in us until we had completed all three trials. One door to the south led outside to the Ruins that had also been cleared of enemies, from which the party headed straight back to Peak. Upon returning to the tavern, everyone leveled up!

Points of Interest/Rumors:

  • Cave has three trials: Strength, Wit, Endurance
  • Down the Wit tunnel, a statue says passing all of the trials will earn her trust that we are not one of “Hers”
  • Wit consisted of many logic puzzles, each ending in a tunnel that led to a new room
  • Completing Wit earned the statue’s respect, yet we would not be fully trusted until we completed the other two trials. The statue warned us of “Her” immense power, and that we should be fearful of Her oversight
  • Exiting the final room led us to a cavern with several large stone doors, all of which were locked. The North room had a man on the other side, who held no interest in us whatsoever until we complete all 3 trials
