War of Earth and Water

The Conflict

Prelude

Thalatta is a mass of liquid water shaped by the manipulative forces set by the meridians who inhabit it. It floats in the Threshold far from most any source of food.   They are able to collectively pilot this spherical ocean in any which direction. Needing prey to survive, the hierarchies in Thalasso decided to cooperatively move their home to where prey was plentiful.

Deployment

Thalatta

During the war, as thalatta approached, the water climbed along the outside of the topopolis and creeped inward; asphyxiating plants and engulfing scurrying animals. The sphere misshapened along the spiral landscape, according to surface tension, but remained externally as a continuous glob, while the water volume inside manifested a spring-like movement around large sanctuarised air bubbles.
It was not perfect ball that rested snuggly in a spring.   No, no.... there was still some open space where the forest dwellers had time to adapt to a newer amphibious, then aquatic, lifestyle.

Battlefield

Dark Forest

All that Cerise in Laplot, and Lazzaris in the mountains, could do was amass at the outer edges at the newly drowned woods. The war was a thousand year period of intense skirmishes - lacking any decisive factor - interspersed with nothing else happening.
There was never a critical battle one could point to.   The unstoppable mass rammed into the immovable earth and that was that.

The Engagement

Waiting Siege

The waters followed wherever the meridians went and just sat at the Nonantum intersection to block traffic.
This remained the status quo for a thousand years because the water would neutralize the acid-base chemistry in their bodies. In that time, the meridians gorged on the creatures of the everdark. As time went on, streams of steam would journey outside the water to raid passersby.
Diarchy of Taw
Lazzaris had been isolated with decentralized guerrilla forces hiding in the mountains.
Thalasso
Once the meridians nestled into place, they did very little after.
Diarchy of Tee
Cerise held Laplot's conventional army that discouraged the further expansion of the waters.

Outcome

  • Breaking the Nonantum trade passage
  • Physically separating the diarchs: Lazzaris and Cerise
  • Mass drowning of a multitude of terrestrial species
  • Aftermath

  • Drastic ecological change of this forested section of Farmland
  • Disruptions to gleipnir harvesting in Meanomore
  • Mass species exchange between Thalatta and Everdark
  • Historical Significance

    Legacy

Former laplwyd territories in the Everdark were effectively abandoned with few lackluster attempts to recolonize them after the waters receded:
  • Mardröm was one residence belonging to the diarchs that was blasted to grey ruins.
  • Husby is a human town resurgent all alone in the forest.

  • Alternate Name
  • Water Siege on Earth
  • Laplot Blockade
