The Falconer's rest

Just out of Arch Gate, siding the narrow Yew Row you can find the Falconer's rest, a popular inn in Virkenhall. The old sign with the symbol and motto "Ach art" of the Royal Falconry society will allow observant bypassers to understand that besides the public functions this building hosts the gatherings of one of the most important guilds in the Kingdom. The beautiful leaded windows with coloured glasses depicting images of hawks, falcons and kestrels give a strong "mood" to the building. The inn has a number of usual patrons from the local district and it is the usual rendez-vous for hunters that are visiting the capital.

Main hall

The main entrance allows people into a small lobby with another door, designed to prevent the heat to escape the room everytime the main door gets opened. The main hall is dominated by a large counter, horseshoe shaped, that occupies a central position in front of the door to the kitchens, surrounded by a few tall stools for clients that only want to chat and drink. On the right hand of the counter, there's a large fireplace with a mantlepiece of Hörburg Oak, carved with hunting scenes. The two largest tables are the two closer to the fireplace, then other smaller tables are distributed to grant sitting places for patrons who want to enjoy a hearty meal. On the left hand of the counter the space is divided in small wooden niches for who desires some discretion. On this side of the hall there are, as well, doors to the latrines. The walls of the main hall are decorated with a remarkable display of taxodermy with hunting trophies and beloved prey birds, preserved to eternal memory.

The gatherings room

On the second storey of the building, entering the door on the left side of the corridor can be found another important chamber. As the name may suggest, here the member of the Royal Falconry society meet up. This comfortable drawing room contains red leather armchairs to allocate twentyfive people. In case of a plenary meeting, the sitting spots are distributed according to rank in the guild and a lot of members accept that they will have to stand. Between the armchairs are evenly distributed coffee tables with trays, that can be used to change the leaves and remove the ashes from the smoking pipes. In this room the light is purposedly kept dim, most of the time, as most of the meetings are arranged to discuss matters involving a few members and, possibly, some prospect. Most of the light comes from a fireplace, smaller and less decorated in compare with the one downstairs. This room stores as well some of the most important valuables of the guild, in a chestnut display are stored some items that may have belonged to Zhanti, an ancient Otadan. On the same floor, from the other doors in the corridor, clients can access the common guest room and the bathroom, where patrons can enjoy rest and a good scrub from the dust of the travel.

The top floor

The highest storey of the inn grants space for the individual guest rooms, in number of three, and the main suite. All those four rooms are provided with comfortable beds and storage space for the luggage, the suite has a bookshelf, a toilet table with a mirror and an en-suite restroom.

Zhanti's treasures

In a secure display cabinet in the Gathering rooms are stored a few of the most precious assets of the Royal Falconry society, two objects that, the legend says, belonged to the Otadan chief Zhanti. When Zhanti came to the west introducing to the art of falconry some hunters, that would become the originary nucleus of the guild. At that time, the preybirds would help the hunters in their job but retained a certain degree of freedom, with the time the training has become more effective and has been adapted to the request of nobles. The treasure is composed of a fragment of Zhanti's birth blanket, although some people doesn't believe it is the original, and an ancient bow, in the typical otadan style. To protect this treasure from harm and theft, twice a year a magician from the tower of Abjurators comes to refresh wards of protection.

Sounds like a really cosy place. I like that they purportedly have some treasures that belonged to Zhanti.

One of the best value per money inns in Virkenhall, I am considering if making it haunted or not...
