Talk to the Spirit

As the party stands in the presence of the towering dwarven statues, a spectral figure materializes upon the ancient Dwarven Throne. An albino dwarf spirit warrior king, manifests with an ethereal glow. His piercing blue eyes hold a mixture of wisdom and sorrow, and his spectral form exudes an aura of regal authority.

"Welcome travelors, I am Castellan Gilthur, I see you have made it here through much toil and adversity. It is by no means a surprise now why the fortress seems unruly. Before I hear you out as to why you have ventured here, it may be useful to first know more about this foresaken place."

Gilthur's tale reaches back centuries, to a time when Axeholm Fortress flourished under the rule of many dwarven kings. He revealed an unexpected name, Vyldara, an elf ambassador, who visited the fortress in a time of alliance and prosperity. She sought unity between the dwarven and elven realms to combat a common threat that loomed on the horizon.
Vyldara and Gilthur began to forge a bond, realizing that their peoples could only thrive through cooperation. However, tragedy struck when the fortress fell under her curse, and the spirits of the dwarven kings, including Gilthur, became bound to the halls they once ruled.
With a spectral hand, Gilthur presents a tome that sits on a small table next to him. The tome contains the backstory of Vyldara, her noble mission, and the reasons that led her to explore the depths of Axeholm Fortress.

The Dwarven king continues his story revealing that a banshee now haunts the halls, a malevolent force that threatens the very existence of the spirits bound within.
Gilthur additionally reveals that a powerful necromancer, whose motives remain shrouded in mystery, aids the banshee by supplying her with souls to prolong her spectral existence. The purpose behind this unholy alliance eludes even the wise Castellan.
Gilthur imparts crucial information to the party and entrusts them with a map detailing both the upper and lower halls of Axeholm. He emphasizes the urgency of their quest to rid the fortress of the banshee's curse.
Before the party embarks on their perilous journey, Gilthur grants them safe passage to the upper layer, but only after they recover his royal ring, hidden among the treasures scattered throughout Axeholm. The ring, a symbol of kingship and authority, is key to unlocking the path to the upper layer and unraveling the mysteries that await.
As the party prepares to descend into the depths of the fortress, guided by the spirit king's revelations, they carry with them the weight of a shared destiny with Vyldara, the echoes of a friendship that transcended the boundaries between dwarf and elf, and the hope of breaking the curse that binds the spirits of Axeholm.
