Vepow
Vepow is a special type of powder that Vodu practitioners use to draw Veve iconography. Ingredients for this powder vary depending on the Mambo who creates it. However, two items that are always present are ground eggshells and cornmeal. Other ingredients may include ashes or ground herbs.
Vepow is created through secret rituals passed down through different lineages of mambos and hougons. It is the most important ingredient needed when first accessing lwas' powers. Although Vepow was originally developed in order to strengthen the bond between Lwas and Humans, there have been many dark practitioners who have added other ingredients to Vepow mixtures which compel lwa to give up their power unwillingly.
Different strands of vepow can be bought in stores in most parts of the Ginean region. However, because the market is unregulated there is no guarantee that the product is authentic. Most serious practitioners of Vodu purchase their powders directly from the mambo or hougeon who ground it.
Vepow is most commonly used at the base of personal alters for various lwa. Creating an veve sigil is said to help carry the prayers to the lwa. And if the prayers are powerful enough, the believer may get a visit from the lwa in order to aid them in their petition. Even without direct contact with Lwa, petitioners use Vepow to strengthen their divinations or add it to bags meant to bring good or ill luck to those it is gifted to.
The Fi Warriors use chalk formed from Vepow in battle in order to quickly access Lwa power. This is typically confirmed to a single attack, such as a Simbi Lwa calling down a snake to attack an enemy before retreating. Fi Warriors stay in particular Lwas' good graces by offering petitions and gifts before and after each fight. Because of this, most Fi have no more than three lwa they petition.
