Airships
Airships or Skyships, their name varies from place to place, a large wooden vessels
Airships are a vital part to the city of Helmaroc's Rest
And, as it is with real life ships, there are quite a few models, all in different sizes and with different functions. Such as:
- cargo transport
- people transport
- Livestock transport
- gunships / military purposes
- private yacht
Power Generation
The Flightrock generates lift. This lifting effect is controlled by heating or cooling the flightrock.
Propulsion
Sails, propellers, wings.
Weapons & Armament
Airships can be equipped with various cannons, harpoons or ballistae.
Armor and defense
Airships can be armoured in several ways. Reinforcing the flight rock cage with steel plates, plating the hull, sometimes parts of the front and aft-deck can be covered up with special shields. The hull can be treated with a special lacquer to ward it against the elements (both natural and magical).
Communication Tools & Systems
Most airships employ a navigator who is skilled in various communication skills and tools.
Sensors
Some of the airships have more varied or extra embellishes on the aft-deck, but mostly the ships have several methods of tracking the skies, land or weather.
The aft-deck of the airships has a vast array of levers to control the many varied sails. There's also a small navigation station which is manned by the navigator. Here the navigator has a few telescopes and other navigational equipment to his or her aid.
Additional & auxiliary systems
Dependant on the size of the airship, a lot of varied things can be built in, or onto an airship. But most of the airships are used for transport of people and goods, which each have their own needs such as a large cargohold with its own cranes or, to able to open the hull from the side or front, to accomodate a more varied sizes of cargo. While transporting people would need as much cabinspace as possible.
Hangars & docked vessels
Some larger airships have large cargo holds, capable of holding small airskiffs.
