Draconid (religion)
While the term Draconid now more commonly refers to an offshoot religion, the true original Draconids are an ancient clan of dragon tamers from Hoenn.
Structure
Draconids as a group are treated equally, with the lorekeeper and Rayquaza's emissary at the top
Mythology & Lore
Originally, the Draconids were a group living in the dense forests of Anchient Fallarbor. The group had manages to befriend dragon type pokemon, and with their cooperation, became highly successful, but they still hadn't made contact with the elusive green dragon pokemon in the sky, and came to revere it as a god for it's power.
A young girl had wandered away from the town, and was met with the green dragon - Rayquaza. Through this meeting, the girl befriended the dragon and gained it's trust as the first human to gently contact it. With the great dragon's power at her side, the girl became the messiah of the Draconids, even at such a young age.
The girl used the dragon's power to make sure all was well on the island she lived on.
One day, travelers from somewhere else landed near the forest; along with them was a princess. While watching from the forest, the Draconid's messiah made eye contact with the princess - the princess tried to tell her father, the king, that she saw someone, but he insisted it was a pokemon.
Captivated by the mysterious person, the princess ran into the forest, only to be shortly overtaken by the heavy underbrush and foliage. She woke up in an unfamiliar house, to find out that the girl she saw had brought her in.
The two girls eventually fell in love, and their love bridged the divide between the Draconids and the newly arrived Sootopolians.
However, a wealthy merchant who wanted in on the royal family didn't like this, and set the forest and Sootopolian settlement on fire - pinning the blame on the Draconid's messiah.
The Sootopolian king had the girl and Rayquaza captured, and decided to execute them both; he had obtained a device from Kalos that could take the life energy of pokemon and turn it into a powerful energy: infinity energy. Rayquaza was drained of all it's life energy, and the girl was about to be the subject of the test to see how much damage this energy could do... but the princess stopped them.
The princess said that if they wanted to kill her lover, they should kill her as well. The king begrudgingly obliged, and that winter, a massive snowstorm hit. The two were dumped in the middle of the forest, and were left to freeze to death. The two collapsed into the snow.
Then the girl woke up. It was warm, and it looked like it was about spring. She couldn't find the princess anywhere. She used her skills in pathfinding to locate her town, where everyone was shocked, because she was supposed to be dead. As she found out, she woke up a full year after her original death.
She had later learned that she had gained the powers of Rayquaza, and has able to take on it's form. Though she didn't quite know why until later, she vowed to use this power to protect her people.
Cosmological Views
The Draconids are aware of not just the existence of Ultra Space, but also other versions of their universe. They're also aware that Legendaries aren't just pokemon, but both pokemon and human, yet also neither.
Tenets of Faith
- dont be a dick to nature
- dont be a dick to your family unless theyre dicks to you, un which case find a new family
- dragons are cool
Priesthood
The primary non-legendary Draconid is the lorekeeper - who's role is exactly what the name implies. They keep the history and lore of the Draconids close at hand, and let the history stay alive. They also work alongside Rayquaza to solve would-be calamities.
The lorekeeper is a long running family line, descended from the emissary's sister. Each lorekeeper generally only has one child, and that child is destined to be the next lorekeeper.
Granted Divine Powers
The lorekeeper generally has more physical strength than others, though the most recent is an exception.
Political Influence & Intrigue
The Draconids were one of the 3 original factions that founded what is now modern Hoenn, and while their influence in the current day is limited due to the religion's dying nature, the very roots of Hoenn are founded with Draconids in mind.
Sects
When people hear 'Draconid', they more commonly think of an offshoot religion originally created by Draconids that migrated to the mainland continent. It's less Rayquaza-based and more 'I think dragons are cooler than anything else'-based. Most Draconids from the original religion don't like them.
