Order of the Grail
Founded by Sir Percival for the express purpose of guarding The Holy Grail and the surrounding town of Corbenic. They also serve as the judiciary force protecting the citizens of Listeneise.
Structure
Steward of the Grail
(Currently Gerfried von Corbenik) The Steward of the Grail is the eldest man of the family sworn to protect the Grail. The founding member of the Order of the Grail was Sir Percival, son of Sir Pellinore, younger brother of the Maimed King. Their responsibility first and foremost is the safety of the Holy Grail, whilst also taking care of the Order and the daily needs of the people of Listeneise. The Warden of Listeneise
(Currently Adalbert von Corbenik) Second in command, The Warden of Listeneise takes orders from Steward of the Grail regarding the upkeep of the Kingdom of Listeneise. Serves as the figurehead and overseer of the Order's political activities. They are usually either the younger sibling of the current Steward or the next heir. Since this title didn't exist before Sir Percival's founding of the Order, there are no prolific precedents.Head Herald of the Order - Currently Thimen von Elmfurt
(Currently Thimen von Elmfurt) The one tasked with assigning and finding missions exceptionally important to the Order, as well as delivering the wishes of the Steward to other countries. Serving as the mediator between Kingdom of Listeneise and the world beyond, the Head Herald of the Order is a hub of information. Their subordinates are known as Heralds, stationed in both native Listeneise and all Poraile, acting as ambassadors.Order Legionnaire
(Currently Luitgard von Corbenik) Tasked with the upkeep of the military arm of the Order, the Legionnaire hosts drills, co-ordinates knights on the battlefield and serves as their primary tactician. Though the Steward of the Grail may go on most urgent expeditions, when allied with a foreign power in a bout not concerned with the Grail's safety, the Order Legionnaire will often go in their place. They are usually chosen through an Order-wide evaluation, where Order members elect the next Legionnaire by ranking a selection of candidates determined by the Warden of Listeneise.Culture
Overview [to be included later]
Donning the Crimson Coat
Knights of the Grail are best distinguished by their signature shade of red. This can be seen on their flag, crest and their uniforms. In the organisation's infancy, they wore red clothes or surcoats, which earned them the name "Blódegrela" in contemporary texts. Sir Percival, the founder of the Order, became the Red Knight upon avenging his father and used the identity to exact revenge on those who wronged him. After he learned the error of his ways as part of the Knights of the Round Table, Sir Percival instead turned the moniker into a symbol of restraint against evil. Thus, the red garments within his Order are a mark of both penance and perseverance, even in a dark and corrupted world.Public Agenda
Their public agenda isn't made wholly known, instead preferring to call themselves "The Protectors of Listeneise" when asked by those who know nothing of The Holy Grail or think it lost. However, they can't keep their true goal a secret from the Council of Camelan, from which the Kingdom of Camelot was derived.
Assets
The Order only keep what they need to maintain their operations. Their numbers are quite small for this very reason. Corbenic Castle provides most of what they need, including crops and weapons. They see it as beneath them to own property or ask citizens of Listeneise for resources.
