Game of Boats
The Game of Boats is one of the Training Games in Vigrid. It is a long, grueling marathon that brings even the hardiest adventurers to their knees. In this game teams are placed on boats in an endless ocean. The last team standing wins. Teams are provided with enough food to satiate a single humanoid for three days, with careful rationing. This amount is not adjusted for the size of a team. In addition, if one member of the team dies then their entire team is eliminated. As a result of this large teams typically find themselves at a severe disadvantage. Tales abound of large teams who run out of food before ever spotting land or another ship at all. As if that were not bad enough, participants also find they cannot recover in the manner they are used to. Creatures still require a long rest to avoid suffering exhaustion penalties, however they do not regain expended hit dice or spell slots. In addition, no magic that creates food can be cast.
Teams that have played the game before are generally allowed to retain their previous vessel. New entrants are given a simple ship to use. Teams are also provided with four colored flags that they can hoist as a signal to other vessels: green, white, red, and black.
