BlackSpot

BlackSpot is a virulent and lethal strain of microfungus that thrives in the damp belly of LBN . Believed to be a genetic adaptation to rogue aggregates identified in HabLock construction, BlackSpot is seemingly impossible to eradicate, seeping through the fabric of LBN like a damp stain.   BlackSpot flourishes in areas with poor light and air flow, initially blooming through a HabLocks shell in slimy black rings it quickly coats every interior surface in a dust of grey spores. If left unchecked BlackSpot dissolves the fabric and content of the HabLock, causing walls to crumble and floors to collapse.   Syntients have noted that Specimens are particularly susceptible to BlackSpot when spores are inhaled or come into contact with the skin. The mould rapidly establishes itself, manifesting as blotchy patches which grow into dark concentric circles as they spread across the body. As the condition progresses the hosts tissues succumb to powerful mycotoxins, softening and bloating with a dark viscous discharge. In the final stages the victim develops a dry, productive cough, dispersing plumes of spores before they finally collapse in a shower of fleshy dust. InMates and FED operatives exposed to BlackSpot are quarantined for several bloom cycles to ensure no spores are present.   Cases of BlackSpot are prevalent in the basement levels of the LBN, often located around shower blocks and poorly maintained Flude units. In some cases terminally incarcerated InMates have concealed the presence of BlackSpot, risking infection in the hopes that it will dissolve their HabLock before it dissolves them.   Occasionally BlackSpot is detected in LBN’s BlastWalls, requiring sections to be dismantled and destroyed if resources allow. Thorough thermal disinfection and temporary quarantining of the surrounding area is required before the section can be replaced. Despite extra security measures around these breaches, InMates invariably target them to stage their escape.
