Flude

A low grade recycled nutrient paste somewhere between a liquid and solid state designed to provide the basic levels of nutrition and hydration sufficient for survival. Developed to maximise resources and keep the largest possible amount of the Specimen population alive in times of famine and strife, Flude can be extruded from any Brix or raw materials containing at least 20% biomass, and tends to have an aftertaste relating to its source material.
Flude is manufactured via FludeUnits, a branch of ReproTech which variously combines systems of molecular disassembly, filtration and reconstitution, adjusting their parameters according to user requirement and local FludeSafety regulations.
Flude is sometimes delivered through a network of FludeTubes embedded in the infrastructure of GigaCity OuterBelts, and extruded through distribution apertures as a semi translucent brown paste. On the OutSide, Flude is a sought after commodity.
A slightly more solid format, FludeCubes have been developed by Geo-local Defence Foundations as a practical means of delivering essential nutrients to populations of famine struck OutSiders, notably in Unvironments where FludeUnit deployment isn’t viable. Packaged in handy sized vacuum wrapped blocks and available in a range of Synt approved flavours, FludeCubes have become a popular snack choice in many GigaCity OuterBelts.
Compact FludeUnits can be integrated into vehicular life support systems, offering crews subject to extended OutSide exposure significantly increased rates of survivability. The processes required to condense and secure the ReproTech for personal use make these units prohibitively expensive for the communities that need them the most. However, obsolete and reconditioned units are a staple feature onboard the RollingShanties of OutSide nomadic communities across the PBA. Topping up the pot with recyclable waste, roadkill and otherwise inedible organic matter can mean the difference between life and death. The practice of ‘pophagging’ whereby desperate crews supplement their FludeUnit’s biomass with fallen members is far from apocryphal.
Many OutSide communities supplement their incomes trading as road side FludeVendors, peddling their custom blends of flavours, spiked with performance enhancing chemix to hungry and weary drivers.
On the InSide, FludeUnits are often integrated into fast food DropShops with built in cookers, steamers and SyntChefs to add taste and authenticity to the consumer experience.
