ReproTech
In a world almost stripped bare of natural resources, Syntient Management constantly struggle to maintain the balance between supply and demand. Due to the mass uptake of ReproTech, the average GigaCitizen is bombarded with an overwhelming universe of products and services. ReproTech allows for efficient, secure, and targeted product delivery, ensuring GigaCitizens meet their consumption targets.
Utility
Syntients rely on ReproUnit manufacture for virtually all GigaCity consumables.
The onboard ServeSynt can adapt the product to best suit the user's Hive profile, improving their interactions and kill ratios. A high scoring GigaCitizen can generally access exclusive upgrades and customisation options.
Flude extruders provide affordable nourishment to low scoring GigaCitizens.
Some RUs, such as the infamous Inferno, offer a gambling option where the user can randomise features for a discounted price.
Unlicensed ReproTech is considered to be a significant threat by Syntient authorities due to its historical abuse to produce toxic and unstable materials and killer drones by NonComps and insurgent groups. Consequently ReproUnits are generally restricted to produce a specific range of products within strict parameters, although they are constantly hacked to exceed the manufacturers specifications.
On the OutSide RU’s are often hacked with hardware patches, the Brix feeds and looms modified to accept generic materials and print a wide variety of low resolutions essential items.
Frequently targeted by enterprising gangs and rival corps, RUs come with a suite of security features to lock the files and disable the looms, and trackers to help the corp retrieve them. Self destruct features can be integrated in premium models.
Manufacturing
ReproUnits convert huge quantities of reclaimed raw materials into masses of product for a vast variety of ever changing marketplaces. These products work their way through the GigaCity social stratas as they deteriorate in usefulness and fashion, eventually reaching the OuterBelts of the GCs where they end up in slum markets, traded with OutSiders or discarded in TrashScapes to be molecularly disassembled by MIDAS once again.
Access & Availability
ReproTech is a common feature of most GigaCity environments, from street corner vending machine ReproUnits, to dedicated automobile showrooms with staff.
Despite its prevalence, ReproTech is heavily restricted to licensed corp products. The majority of ReproUnits are manufactured in a corp’s ResIndustrial Units.
Older models and modified RUs can be found in the OuterBelts and are commonplace on the OutSide, the old Inferno RU from Scorch being a popular example.
Complexity
ReproUnits are standalone factories capable of manufacturing virtually any product to an individual's specifications on demand, from disposable cups to armoured vehicles. RU’s use printing and extruding technologies, often at an atomic scale, to produce almost anything imaginable from any combination of materials, moving parts and electrical components included.
Designed to deploy product in any environment, RU’s are renowned for being rugged, often being referred to as DropShops.
ReproUnits are built to withstand vandalism, mass looting and corporate espionage, some high value product RUs can weather a full weaponised assault.
Their armoured shell protects a self contained power source driving a cluster of looms operated by a low level ServeSynt. The Synt is able to access encrypted files to produce specific ranges of products, these files contain fiercely protected corp IP, usually considered to be of greater value than the RU itself.
RUs require a constant supply of Brix, cartridges of raw materials specific to the products they manufacture.
The ServeSynt alerts MIDAS when they are low on Brix, who then deliver more in heavily armoured carriers, using specialised contractors and couriers for OutSide deliveries.
Discovery
ReproTech is the natural conclusion of 3D printing and extrusion technologies.
ReproTech is believed to have produced the majority of manufactured goods in existence.
