Elven Civil War

Structural origins

Between 1200 BKC and 600 BKC the Elves were the dominant species in the Assurian Basin. Since signing a treaty of coexistence with the dwarves there was also no military threat to them. The Elves reveled in luxury, their standards, morals and discipline declined. 700 BKC the Elves were already separated into different factions: Sea Elves of the South, Drow Elves, High Elves, Wood Elves of the East and Shadar Kai.

The conflict

The differences led more often than not to disagreement in religous questions, which led to hostility and finally to bloodshed. Small quarrels grew over time to regional conflicts and concluded into a civil war that span all over the Assurian Basin. Even though it is hard to pinpoint a single event starting the civil war, it is commonly accepted to see the mobilization of the High Elven Army 625 BKC as the beginning of all out warfare between the Elves.   589 BKC, after nearly four decades of fighting, the Drow and Shadar Kai were defeated by a combined army of the High Elves and Wood Elves in the Battle of Kinslayers. As a result the Shadar Kai went into the Shadowfell, promising vengance. The Drow Elves, afraid of repression and racially motivated masacres amongst their people fled into the Gloom.

Aftermath

The Elves and their reign were weakened. Many of their young died during the 60 years of civil war, their defences to the North mostly dilapidated or even abandoned, as troops were needed inside the Assurian Basin. The social trauma and economic effects hindered a quick revitalization of the formerly strong Empire. Therefore the attack of Magrene the Red 549 BKC found relatively little resistance.
