Eldarin {Elvish}
Eldarin (EL-dahr-in), or Elvish, is the language spoken by Elves on Prodat
Creator's Note:
Most Eldarin Prodatua (EL-dahr-in pro-DAHT-oo-ah), or Prodatean Elvish, is derived from (or in many cases blatantly stolen) from the Elvish language created by J.R.R. Tolkien for his world of Middle Earth. Because Tolkien was a professional scholar of old languages, his ideas for Elvish evolved over more than 50 years. There is a vast amount of scholarship on this evolution, much of which is gathered at Parf Edhellen. This work has relied heavily on that site, as well as a number of other sources (listed below).
Many (but not all) Prodatean Elvish words have specific etymological derivations, even though some of those are actually completely made of whole cloth, and some are basically reverse engineered to fit Tolkien's language. This work has tried to include etymological notes for specific articles (particularly locations and organizations), as well as in the dictionary entries that are accessible from this page.
Abbreviations for Sources:
Etymology
Eldarin - STE Eldarin Prodatua - lit. "Elvish of Prodat" - the normal possessive ending for a noun ending in a consonant is -wa, but ASE chose to use the more archaic form -ua, based on notes at Eldamo.
