The Great Houses of Bartol are made up primarily of the landed hereditary nobility created across the years by the rulers of the Kingdom of Bartol
Two of the oldest Great Houses include House Tarana and House Keranen, whose rivalry has lasted for nearly a millenium, at times even flaring into open warfare.
