The Hungry Maw
While small temporary whirlpools caused by Marin pulling her fingers through the water are common in the Rivener Sea, the largest, and permanent whirlpool, has its own name: the Hungry Maw. Known for devouring boats and sailors alike, the Hungry Maw is a massive pool of water that has no known bottom, and no survivors.
Geography
Nearly three hundred feet across, the Hungry Maw catches all that is nearby in its strong current and draw it in, crushing bone and wood alike in the pressure generated by its swirling waters.
History
Though the Hungry Maw has existed for as long as people have explored that part of the Rivener Sea, it is only in the last thousand years that more people have tempted fate and gotten closer, as a group of Daybreak Pirates issues a challenge, sailing as close as possible to the Hungry Maw without being devoured. It is now a more common test of fortitude once one becomes a pirate captain to prove their worth by achieving this, though many have also died in the attempt.
