Project Joðamir

Created by

This world-building project arose out of an old running gag: Tomunism, due to my first name. Having been inspired from great Ravenfield modder Sofa's "Project Altirus", I eventually got hooked on expanding what started as a silly what-if into an actual world building project. To cut back on the silliness, I changed the name from "Tomunist Union" to Severmark.   It has as of yet no use in terms of real-life roleplaying and I write purely in my free time for leisure.   The events of Project Joðamir are taking place on an alternate planet Earth, with different continents, countries and cultures, but with a similar framework of human history. Most of the log takes place in what in our world would be the late 19th to mid-20th century, with the level of technological advancement about 5-15 years ahead in some aspects, and behind in others.   The two antagonising main factions are the Severmarkish Union of Federative Democratic Socialist Republics and the Kingdom of Kélaria.    The Severmarkish Union is inspired by the Nordic countries and takes cultural and linguistical elements from there as well as from greater Slavic cultures like Russia and Ukraine. They are a decentralised democratic socialist State consisting out of four federative Republics, with emphasis on public ownership, a mixed economy, secularism and an otherwise liberal value-policy. The Union, since its foundation, has had a perennial problem of internal struggle regarding questions of social policy, welfare, public spending and the separation of public and private spheres; though the Great War of Eiðmorall tied the inhabitants of the four Severmarkish Republics much closer together.   The Kingdom of Kélaria is an old colonial Empire, with absolute monarchical roots. The Kingdom takes cultural and linguistical inspiration from France, the Bretons and Italy. Now they are a constitutional monarchy, headed by a powerful Senate. Their social hierarchy is highly vertical and strict, though their social focus is relatively communitarian, I.e accommodating the well-being of all the King's subjects to ensure a prosperous future. The Church of Cyhin of Séra is powerful and exerts large amounts of influence over public opinion and policy. The government has been pursuing a strategy of colonial irredentism for about one hundred years.
