Apogee

Apogee was the most successful band of the 22nd century. They dominated the Sol top 10 for most of the 70s before breaking up.   The band, originally called "The Moon Rocks", was founded in 2163 by the sisters Tonya and Milyena Yabloneva. At the time they were university students in Artemis Base. With Tonya on vocals and base and Milyena on guitar, they still needed a drummer, which they found in Erden Jalali, a classmate of Milyena's. The trio found some success in the local music scene, playing in bars and smaller concert venues.   In 2168, a festival led to a fateful meeting with the electronic artist Arpi Baltaian, who had played the previous set on the same stage. She became the fourth and final member of the group. Through her influence the band's music became more unique and experimental. The new style greatly boosted the group's popularity and led to their eventual discovery by New Baikonur based record label Euterpe. It was then that they changed their name to Apogee, ditching what Tonya in a later interview called a "stupid pun".   In 2170, Apogee's self titled debut album was released to great success. It received much praise from critics and was the most played song on radio channels throughout the system. On Luna, it never left the top ten the entire year. This kicked off a spree of successful music, the likes of which had not been seen before. Apogee released albums more or less yearly, with singles sprinkled between. Without fail, everything they put out made it into the charts.   Apogee disbanded in 2177. The reasons for the breakup never became fully known to the public, though many claim that there was personal strife between the Yabloneva sisters and another member of the band. Accounts disagree if that other member was Erden or Arpi, however. The following decades saw many solo releases and collaborations with other artists by the former members, though less frequent than back in the days of Apogee. Arpi is the exception to this. Shortly after the end of Apogee, she vanished from public view and hasn't been seen since. There is a wide range of conspiracy theories on her whereabouts. Her former band members refuse to speak on the matter, at any rate.   The band left a lasting influence on music and popular culture as a whole. Not only did their unique style inspire many artists and create an entire genre, but there entire iconography, such as album covers, is widely recognized and cited by other media. A famous example is the cover of Nadir, their third album. It shows the four of them floating in one of the central hallways of Noether Hab, a large space station in Earth orbit. Tourists recreating the iconic pose are a constant annoyance to locals.
