Canar
The southern most continent in the West, Canar is best identified by the wide salt water channel which cuts through its northern region. Dust covered accounts, some from the Vrolua, give lip service to the creation of this large uneven fjord. A document discovered near the town of Harlot's Hall, tells of a giant that attempted to cut a pathway through the continent to reach the warmth of the Shallow Sea. Local stories from Theran recall similar events involving a giant which moved a large mountain made of ice out to the Veswol Sea. Regardless of what story rings truest, the fjord and the country that surrounds it are named after the lost giant, Oln.
Canar is home to the Olnic people. They have lived in the area for longer than any other than the Soan. They began as the simple Olna tribe which split into two distinct groups during ancient times. The Olna of the Northwest of Canar remained locked to the Runner's Range, while the Eastern Olna traveled as far south as they could. These Eastern Olna became known as the Olna-Nen and they would go on to traverse the Ice Vein and begin their migration into Bheid. The Canaril culture is at its very roots Olnic in nature. From Palispar to Orda, every inch of the continent is dotted with Olnic influence.
Canar is divided into five large territories. The Ordan Dominion, the Pirate Kingdom of Palispar, the Oln Dynasty, the Bronze Kingdom, and the Soan Territory.
The Ordan Dominion sits upon black volcanic sands and except for the Jewels of Canar, it is mostly low-lying countryside. The Pirate Kingdom of Palispar to the far west is known for the Salt Hills, which are jagged glaciers of salt. The Oln Dynasty has extreme seismic activity and hotspots of volcanic activity towards its coasts. The Bronze Kingdom is the heart of Canar and holds sway over its largest river system. Finally the Soan Territory is a vast patch of solid ice for as far as the Ice Vein flows; the soan that live in this territory almost all live below ground.
South of the Oln Dynasty, which is balmy and lush with vegetation, temperatures remain cool in summertime, and well below freezing during the winter time. The Bronze Kingdom becomes a near impassable wonderland of ice and snow during colder seasons and this governs how the duchies operate. Warm currents supply Palispar with warmer weather than their inland counterparts. Lastly, the Ordan Dominion is, for the most part, shielded by a warm ocean current which turns what would have become an inhospitable landscape of black sands into arable land.
