Warforged
The Warforged were built by the Celestials and Cosmic beings to protect the Brightening Shrines. The first Warforged were mindless automatons, but the artificers and tinkers of the realm devoted vast resources to improving these steel soldiers. An unexpected breakthrough produced fully sentient soldiers, blending organic and inorganic materials. Warforged are made from wood and metal, but they can feel pain and emotion, and even think as a living creature. Built as weapons, they must now find a purpose beyond the Brightening Shrines, for after the shrines stopped giving the rainbow-like angelic effect, the Warforged found themselves without purpose.
Each Shrine was granted 500 Warforged soldiers to uphold the protection of the shrines, 200 Juggernaut Warforged, 100 Guardian Warforged, 100 Arcane Wielding Warforged, 50 Scout Warforged and 50 Specialized Warforged, with all of these Warforged designed specifically for the area and shrine they were built to protect. The Juggernaut Warforged were constructed to deal out heavy doses of damge while also absorbing a brutal amount of punishment. Then there were the Guardian Warforged, each of these Warforged are masters of all martial weapons and were designed to be the ultimate dualists. Arcane Wielding Warforged, were capable of devestating spellcasting of all kinds, from druidic spells to protections and shields and even bolts of great damage from spells like Thunderbolt and Fireball. The Scout Warforged are the assassins and cunning of the Warforged, but small in stature, often waiting in the shadows for the right time to back up their much larger counterpart Warforged brothers. And finally, The Specialist Warforged ranged anywhere from beast like Warforged, Psychic Warforged and even champion Warforged known as Titanforged, colossal sized Warforged manufactured by the The Council Of All to be the mightiest of Warforged.
They would cycle in and out of duty depending on if they would die or become incapacitated, but maintaining the number of units, 500, for each shrine. But after the Brightening failed over 500 years ago, their race numbers began to deplete as the Warforged started to quest and search for the reasoning to why their precious shrines have failed to dawn their beautiful balancing lights. The last of the living Warforged cannot remember what happened on that faithful day the shrines stopped shining, but many sages, artificers, tinkers and historians have tried to tap into their memories to see if they can recollect those lost stories and images. But with the dwindling numbers, this is becoming more and more an unlikely task. What is known is that each Warforged is marked on their forehead with the runes of the shrines they were meant to protect, and it has been documented that the Warforged runes glow and become active when within a mile of the 12 Gennisi Stones. What the glow and activation means is also shrouded in lost memory at this point, as all of the Warforged draw blanks as to what occurs when near a Gennisi Stone. But some elders of Prototokos say they have seen the Warforged grow larger, become more ferocious in battle and have heightend skills while their runes are active.
A Warforged can be a steadfast ally, a cold-hearted killing machine, or a visionary in search of purpose and meaning. But they are few these days, as their numbers have declined to an estimated 500 in the entire realm... This once proud race of protectors is nearly extinct.
