Emerande was summoned by Invonior in a botched attempt to complete an experimental ritual. The attempt caused his death and brought Emerande into the world. After finding themselves in this world Emerande created a small cult. Unfortunately after a few short years a hero put an end to her cult. They killed all of her followers and she was placed into an enchanted urn by the hero Varlsasbeid.

In 703, Varlsasbeid's heirs, believing the above events to be nothing more than a legend, gave the urn over to a new school in order to add to it's prestige as well as their own.
In 755, a student at the school, Auberon, thought he would be able to bargin with Emerande after freeing her in order to gain additional power. So, he broke the seal on the urn, releasing her. After this meeting Auberon slayed everyone in the temple and the two left unseen.
