Professor Pacali
Professor Pacali maintains the Hall of Horrors at Carnival, which is home to the hideous abominations like Madam Fortuna and to dozens of malformed pickled fetuses in jars. He is a wizard, and taught at the Brautslava Institute in Darkon before joining the Carnival. He claims that the Twisting has warped him too thoroughly for him to return, although you've never seen any deformities.
Pacali is studying fiends, and according to Madam Eva's reading to Vanya, in winter he'll have a crucial piece of information for defeating the Dark Man. Pacali intends to take a sabbatical at the Brautslava Institute during the winter. He's asked Vanya to keep an eye out for a book called The Tome of Bindings by Preben the Red if you pass through Hazlan (which I'm putting between Barovia and Darkon, because Nova Vaasa is the pits).
Pacali is arrogant and condescending, although he has grudging respect for Vanya because Vanya has successfully feigned a greater familiarity with the arcane than he actually has. He suspects that Isolde is a fiend, and that the Twisting is her nefarious way of ensnaring her victims and ensuring they can never have lives apart from her.
