The Dukkar

A dukkar is a male Vistana with The Sight. Prophecy holds that a dukkar will be the destroyer of the Vistani race. As such, all male Vistani showing signs of this ability are usually killed by their own tribe.
Specifics about the prophecy have been frustratingly difficult to pin down; according to Gianna Russo, seemingly every tribe has its own slightly different version of the dukkar prophecy. In every version, a dukkar who survives to adulthood will succumb to evil and destroy the Vistani people. In some versions, he destroys everything else as well. Van Richten's Guide to the Vistani gives a version where the dukkar commits terrible atrocities and the Vistani are blamed for them and murdered (Rafe, having read VRGttV, would have told Rose this), but that isn't the only version of the myth. Madam Fortuna said that men were doomed to be corrupted or destroyed by Death because Death hated and feared the sight but couldn't touch women because of their connection to life. Gianna Russo said that to the Vistani, evil was such an intrinsic part of a dukkar's destiny that trying to teach him to be good was like trying to teach a wolf to eat grass (which was the metaphor Julien had used while being overtaken by the Sight).
When Gianna Russo heard that Julien had the Sight despite being only part Vistani and that he hadn't lost it after staying in one place for too long (which was how Vincente lost his), she expressed the fear that dukkar might have all the Vistani's powers with none of their weaknesses.
The only dukkar you've heard of (besides Julien and, briefly, Vincente before he lost his Vistani powers and became a mortu) is Hyskosa, the seer who predicted the Great Upheaval/Grand Conjunction. Nira told you the Tribe of Hyskosa would be at Julien's disposal if he ever wanted to learn how to use the Sight.
