Ynnsmouth
A cursed and mysterious village on the border between Gwenydd and Cape County, Ynnsmouth secretly homed the Cult of Dagon for centuries and its inhabitents were slowly corrupted by the elder God. Ransacked but always rebuilding, the village has been completely levelled once more by the Commonwealth after Ebony tried to resurect Dagon.
The village served as the battle site for Doomed 2 Die and Ebony as they battled in the hidden temple beneath the village.
Demographics
Seemingly majority human, there were small populations of halflings and half-elves. Unknown to most, the majority of the population were actually sea spawn.
Government
Seemingly a small barony, the village was in principle governed by a baron but was actually beholden to the Cult of Dagon who lived in a hidden temple beneath the village centre.
Defences
The village maintained a small handful of formal guards, but was secretly armed with an army of Sahaugin and sea spawn who lived in the dungeon below the village. The mighty kraken Baba Mara also lied dormant in the bay ahead of the village.
Infrastructure
Ynnsmouth was formally a key point on the Northern Road, but this was bypassed in the 900s due to the village's growing dire reputation. The former main thoroughfare is still maintained.
Districts
At its height, Ynnsmouth had two districts. Waterside and Cropside. The waterside was the oldest part of the settlement surrounding the main docks and markets whilst Cropside was more spread out and composed of agricultural ranches and plantations. Cropside was destroyed and left largely abandoned after the Eldrian armies ransacked the village during the 40 year war, leaving a small portion of Waterside intact.
Below the village is a large hidden temple and cave system.
Assets
By 1052, the village maintained one inn, a blacksmiths, a Divinitist church, a merchant docks, a hotel, and markets. The village saw minimal traffic outside of surrounding homesteaders who came here to trade with the locals, often remarking how strange the villagers were.
History
Ynnsmouth was built as a small village around the bay between Cape County and Gwenydd, then known as the Ynnings, in the mid 3rd age. Previous settlements had existed in its locations for centuries but had always been destroyed and forgotten about. This was later revealed as being the fault of Baba Mara and the corrupting influence of Dagon.
In its modern form, Ynnsmouth was once a propserous market and fishing settlement that remained neutral in conflicts between Kernowian and Gwenyddian clans. The village surrendered peacefully to the Eldrian Empire's expansion into Kernow in the 310s as to not alert suspicion to the growing cult of dagon. Not long after, the village's creepy reputation grew and the Eldrian Empire built a bypass route for merchants and patrols to avoid the village entirely.
The village was destroyed in the 40 year when a passing Eldrian army became aware of the Cult of Dagon's activities, their reports remained classified and the Eldrians told nobody what they had found.
The village rebuilt and slowly regrew but the cult remained hidden until 1052 when Ebony led a daring attack on Ceannastra. The village was destroyed again, its inhabitents slaughtered by the Commonwealth army.
