Eidolons
The Eidolons, or otherwise known as the Eidololatria Pantheon, are a collection of celestial beings that are present and show their influence throughout the world of Rakuen.
Eidolons exist as celestial beings who have inherited power in one way or another. They may have been mutant creatures, they may have been humanoids who attained godly powers, they may have been strangers from another realm, or outcasts from another existence. They were seen by the Eternia gods as too powerful and chaotic to remain on the Material Plane, and for this, The Eternia gods sealed all Eidolons - new and old - away in the Vessel, a constructed demiplane known as The Outlands contained within the many bodies of The Moon.
Eventually, as a result of The Moon’s Cry, the Eidolons broke free of their prison. With no other Vessel to store them in, they expanded the Outlands into its own plane and bending the cosmology of the universe. This drove the Eternia gods into submission through the sheer chaos that the Eidolon’s existence presented upon the multiverse.
Thus, the Eidolons were left in control of the Material Plane, spreading across it and adopting domains as they pleased. Furthermore, because Eidolons engendered chaos upon the multiverse, the creation of new Eidolons became much easier, giving humanoids much more agency in the multiverse itself.
The Eidolons new position of power brings benefits and detriments to their existence. On one hand, they are completely free, and act on the fundamentals of the multiverse at their own whims. Altering the Weave, twisting and bending fate, upending the various planes, or creating new planes all their own, Eidolons can reshape the entire multiverse with great ease. At the same time, Eidolons struggle with retaining belief in a crowded landscape of celestial beings. Moreover, because the multiverse is so crowded, gods often step into each others domains; those who share politely tend not to squabble, but Eidolons who are more vain and selfish will have to fight to hold on to their dominance of a domain.
Another problem is that all celestial beings lost their immortality with the absence of the Eternia gods. As the multiverse shifted from a Neutral Good alignment to a Chaotic Neutral alignment, the balance of immortality could not be maintained. This means that unless the Eidolons held on to some higher power themselves, their defeat could result in their permanent death.
The loss of the Eternia gods also means that the Far Realm pushed closer toward the multiverse. This means protection against the alien horrors that exist beyond the veil of the multiverse is more difficult, costly, and necessary than ever before, and that crossings of beings from the Far Realms into the various planes is a much more likely outcome than ever before.
Finally, Eidolons do not control Fate or Destiny. Although some Eidolons work alongside the threads of fate, or may serve a higher power that controls fate, they themselves cannot alter destiny in its most raw form without directly aiding a Vestige.
