Fulgur's Gift
Fulgur watched as the humans toiled to survive in the land the Gods created. They were not very skilled. Their two legs were not as fast as the four-legged creatures they hunted and they had no teeth or claws to grip and kill their prey. But they were very clever. Fulgur was impressed and intrigued by the ingenuity of these creatures. They would ambush, trick, or beguile beasts right into their hungry villages, and they learned quickly which methods worked best with which beasts. Fulgur thought it would be very interesting to see what they would do with more.
Fulgur petitioned Originale, "Originale, can we not give these humans the ability to create as we do? Would they not delight and surprise us with things made in our honor?"
Originale responded, "No, my child, we cannot let these humans create as we do. It seems like a whim for you to create anything now, because we have much energy to do so. But, my child, energy is expended in the creation of things. We obtain this energy from the worship of our living creations. If we gave them the ability to create as we do, who would worship them to give them the energy to do so? And do you think they would keep worshiping us once they had the ability themselves to create? So you see, giving humans the ability to create, is the path to no further creation."
Fulgur pondered this dilemma and said, "Perhaps they can create things, not from energy, but from things already created. If they reshape and recombine things already in existence, then the process would no require creation energy, would it not?"
Originale could see no fault in their child's logic and gave Fulgur their blessing.
Fulgur enlisted the help of their siblings in giving humans the ability to create from things already created. Flora showed the humans how raise the offspring of plants, and humans started growing the most useful ones close to their homes. Terra showed the humans the many metals and stones under the soil, which humans sharpened to make up for their lack of claws. Ignis showed the humans how to make fire, and they were able to keep warm, cook food, and reshape the metals of Terra into even more elaborate shapes. And Originale taught the humans how to record their discoveries and share them with others, and with the gift of writing the humans were able to learn and refine their techniques at impressive speeds. Indeed, the Gods were delighted and surprised.
Spread
It was once common for tradesfolk to wear Fulgur's Grace and give special praise to this God. This practice and the Gods have been forgotten since The Fall of the Maji.
Lightning symbols are often found carved on surviving trade halls, guilds, and workshops built in the time of the Maji. Lightning is also often depicted on the sarcophagi of notable blacksmiths, jewelers, artists, and other tradesfolk of the past. These symbols are the only remnants of this myth.
