Natural Treasures
Overview
What is a Natural Treasure? This is a common question asked by children and newcomers all across Marus. In the Realm of Seas, where power naturally coalesces, potent amalgamations of magical energy can transform into solidified chunks known as Natural Treasures. They are a vital component of the ecosystem's stability and have become a natural facet of its wildlife's growth and development. They are the product of the world's natural cycles and form from patterns of significance; each one will develop its own strength and identity depending on the ambient powers that surround it and the history that defines it. Thus stability on the islands of Marus often comes hand in hand with its Natural Treasures.
My family has cultivated Jipsym Stalks in the Cloudtop Sea for many generations. We have learned the songs the stalks love most, prepared their rich soil, and tracked their slow growth. I would say there are few more prepared to bring a crop of these Earthen Treasures to Copper and even fewer who could raise it to Tin.
A Coveted Resource
The Gifted of the Relic Arts covet Natural Treasures to fuel their magical advancement, absorbing them to build a sturdy foundation for their future growth. These Paths to Power are defined by the Primal Elements they have absorbed and thus the fundamental forces over which they have developed a degree of control. The most powerful of the Gifted will use these powers as fuel to wield Marus' ancient Relics. The civilized zones in the archipelagoes similarly covet Natural Treasures to power their island defenses. These powerful constructs consume entire fortunes to facilitate the population's safety from the sea's monstrous threats.
Weighted Ranks
Natural Treasures, like the Gifted that use them, have an innate hierarchy of ranks that denotes the potency of their power. Though Natural Treasures may vary wildly in size or shape, their density and weight will remain proportional to their contained energy. Copper Treasures begin as heavy as a cup of seawater, weighing less than a pound. They grow to become Tin Treasures comparable to a pint of water that weighs just over a pound. As they become Bronze Treasures, they can weigh as much as a pint of seawater and are twice as heavy as lesser treasures. An Iron Treasure is never heavier than a gallon of seawater and weighs the better part of ten pounds. Steel Treasures are comparable to a cubic foot of water and weigh well over fifty pounds. While a Gold Treasure is as colossal as a cubic meter of seawater and can weigh several thousand pounds.
